Denilson to Dallas, very nice
jaime moreno breaks the MLS scoring record with his record 109th penalty kick.
considering that yallop abused beckham to the breaking point on thursday night, don't expect to see the midfielder play sunday against the Rapids.

No Beckham.
No Blanco.
Just 15,833 screaming fans at a Timbers 1-0 win over Charleston.
I know that's not 66K at Giants Stadium, but for a USL D-1 game, that's pretty frickin' awesome attendance for a regular season game.
It beat the previous record of a Timbers-Sunderland exhibition match.
I know duNord doesn't tend to post match recaps for USL games, but I have to think that this kind of support for a USL game is worth mentioning:

P.S. After Justin Thompson hit the volley that sent the whole stadium into a frenzy, new Timbers owner Merritt Paulson was running up and down the aisles in the Timbers Army section giving everyone high-fives. It was so genuine and real. How many owners would do that?
P.P.S. MLS, are you paying attention?
Agreed that 15,833 is a huge number. What was the occasion or promotion that prompted so many people to show up? I ask because the Timbers had not been doing that well the last 6 games or so?
The redoubtable Peter Wilt is guest blogging over at The Red Card. He is heading up the effort to bring professional women's soccer back to Chicago and has lots of interesting tidbits:

Thursdays are "Thursday Thursdays" for the Timbers. I'm not sure of the the exact promotion, but it's cheap(er) beer. Plus, it was the last home game of the regular season for Portland.
The Timbers/Thunder match while we were out there was also on a Thursday, and drew over 8,000.
The LA Galaxy played Beckman for a full ninety minutes. Yallop was quoted saying it was a mistake.
Bruce, what MLS team do you support?
KJ is right though it's "Thirsty Thursday"--hence the cheap beer.
There was that, and they were auctioning off the player jerseys off their backs.
But no other promotion this season got this kind of turnout. I think it was a combination of those promotions, a beautiful night for soccer, a team in a fight for first place, and, most importantly, a soccer mad town.
