USA Line Up V Guatemala

This is who I think will be in the starting 11 for Team USA today:

Howard

Hejduk - Bocanegra - Onyewu - Bornstein

Dempsey - Clark - Donovan - Beasley

Johnson - Ching

(corrected - thanks to Jeffrey for pointing out my boneheaded error)

Who do you think will start the game?

I'm going with:

Howard

Hejduk-Bocanegra-Onyewu-Bornstein

Dempsey-Feilhaber-Bradley-Beasley

Johnson-Donovan

And Conrad won't be playing, as he is not on the roster due to injury. Also, I noticed that about a week ago, you posted a list of the MLS playoff picture as things stand now, except that you had eight teams making the playoff instead of six, as is the new system. Just some friendly corrections, I don't mean to nitpick - Du Nord is still my go-to source for soccer news.

I have to agree with Jeffery his line up is pretty solid. Bradley has show so far shown a lot faith in Bornstien so I won't be surprised to see him start. I also think that Donovan days in the midfield might be over, with the grooming of Feilhaber-Bradley as the midfield of the future and with our lack of a reliable striker (missing Mcbride).

I agree with Jeffrey that I think Feilhaber will or should start in the middle over Clark. To be fair, haven't seen enough of either to know best, but Feilhaber is calm and controlled on the ball and distributes well. Why Hejduk over Spector? Spector, even if you think he is overrated, has played two full seasons of premier league football. That speaks volumes in my opinion. In any case, I am psyched to see the game tonight! Lets hope they can break down Guatemala.

am i on drugs?
maybe
as for the playoffs, our friend tps pointed this out the other day, here is the exact wording from MLS on playoff structure:
"The top two teams in each conference will make the playoffs; of the remaining nine teams, the four with the most points, regardless of conference, will also qualify."
i do have it listed right
thanks amigos
i love you all

Howard

Spector-Bocanegra-Onyewu-Bornstein

Dempsey-Feilhaber-Bradley-Beasley

Johnson-Donovan

I expect Dempsey to play better than he did against China. If not, let Mapp come in.

I'd sit Landon. He hasn't been playing very well of late.

Howard

Spector Onyewu Bocanegra Bornstein
Ralston Feilhaber Dempsey Beasley
Twellman Johnson

i would love for someone to bench Donovan. it would do him some good to let him know there is some competition. lets see if Bradley has the balls to do it. or will that mess with landon's head too much?

I don't think benching Donovan is the right choice. Start him, then sub him early if he doesn't perform. The same thing that should be done with the rest of the players on the field.

Because Bradley has talked about "earning it," I think it'll be interesting to see who gets the captain's armband.

I say

Howard

Hejduk Demerit Onyewu Bornstein

Dempsey Feilhaber Donovan Beasley

Johnson Twellman

I really want to see Twellman get some real playing time.

I don't much care for Donovan but I still think he's a great player who should be on the field. I'm very very curious about Demerit, he may surprise us.

Donovan hasn't had his best game so far this year, but I think that a lot of that has to do with the terrible squad that LA have put together. The team is completely dependant on LD for anything positive on the offensive end (hence scoring or assisting on all LA goals). Other teams focus their defense solely on him meaning that he constantly has to face double and triple teams. I think that the freedom of having other good players around him could mean a really great tournament for Donovan. I hope he brings it!

hoping Spector starts ahead of Hedjuk.

perhaps

Howard
Hejduk-Bocanegra-Onyewu-Bornstein
Dempsey-Feilhaber-Beasley
Donovan
Johnson-Twellman

Donovan needs space to get running at defenders- not backing to them

subs:
Mapp for Beas
Spector at either outside back
Bradley/Clark for mid mid

I agree with thndergunner there about LD. He has scored twice and asstisted 5 times with a team that hasn't shown us anything. That is nowhere near what either Twellman or Johnson are scoring, but there is a HUGE difference in what KC and NE are bringing to the pitch and what LA is meagerly offering.
Also, I haven't seen LD in practice, so whatever has been going on in LA may not reflect what LD has been bringing to camp.
Also, this Feilhaber/Bradley duo in the middle has me excited for our future once both of these guys get some more experience. They are already showing great composure on the ball and some of Bradley's tackles against China showed me some wisdom I haven't often seen in someone that young.
