USMNT - World Cup Qualifying

The USA is currently the 3rd best team in CONCACAF. Its debatable who is #1 and #2 - Mexico or Costa Rica. But they are both ahead of the USA, make no mistake about that.

Jozy Altidore is suspended for the game in Honduras.

  • Players who had good games against Costa Rica: (1) Zusi
  • Players who had average games against Costa Rica: (11) Morris, Ream, Villafana, Dempsey, Pulisic, Arriola, Nagbe, Bradley, Johnson, Wood, Altidore

Basically we sit here: USA, Honduras and Panama are all fighting for 1 remaining World Cup spot and 1 playoff spot against Asia. One of those 3 countries will lose out.
  • Michael Bradley: "It’s so clear and it’s all right there for us. It’s three games, a little three-team tournament to see who goes to the World Cup directly, who is going to play in the playoff and who is going to be out."

Heat, humidity and big time pressure on the USA in San Pedro Sula Honduras today. By Jeff Carlisle for ESPNFC.
  • Add to that that the Hondurans will want to enact revenge for a humiliating 6-0 loss to the USMNT on Mar 24.

MLS

My MLS Notes:
  • Kei Kamara Baby! His first hat trick in MLS, and the Revs rolled!
  • Orlando fell all the way to 10th in the East. 7 points out of a playoff spot. Does their coach Jason Kreis survive until next year if they don't make the playoffs?
  • Since Pablo Mastroeni was fired as head coach of Colorado Rapids they have lost all 4 games. And each loss is worse than the one before it. Colorado's last win, home or away, was on Jul 1.
  • Chicago broke their duck. It was a long time coming, and maybe losing to Minn last week was hitting bottom. Even when you are strong a road win is good in MLS. So this was big. And their leader Schweinsteiger got the only goal too.

Week 26 Results:
(4 games)
-Sat Sep 2
New England 4-0 Orlando
Montreal 0-1 Chicago
Dallas 2-2 New York RB
LA 3-0 Colorado
12 goals in 4 games = 3 goals per game.

  • 16 Diego Valeri
  • 16 Nemanja Nikolic
  • 15 Sebastian Giovinco
  • 15 Ignacio Piatti
