Some Soccer News for May 5, 2017

It's Day 125 of 2017.

Check this garbage out: Sulley Muntari is playing for Pescara in Serie A when a bunch of Cagliari fans start racially abusing him. He tries to appease them, even gives a kid his jersey. But it just gets worse. So he goes to the referee to ask him to help make it stop. Not only does the ref not oblige but he books Muntari for hassling him. Muntari then takes things into his own hands and just walks off the field. After the game the Italian federation gets involved and not only do they do NOTHING about the Cagliari fans but they give Muntari a 1 game suspension for walking off the field. Unreal. These people who did the heckling, the ref and the federation officials are ALL horrible people who should have no place in soccer.
  • Now go to the Pescara website. Across the top there is a banner that reads "NO TO RACISM - RESPECT". No further explanation. But beyond that I dare you to find anything about Muntari and how he was treated. NOTHING!
  • UPDATE: After 24 hours of the Italian federation getting bombarded for their idiotic suspension of Muntari, they have backtracked and removed the ban. Now they need to get to work on "fans" in the stadium.

MINNESOTA UNITED

Very good review of Christian Ramirez's season so far and strong words on Kansas City's great defense and offensive strategies. (scroll down the page to the 2nd section "American Dream". By Matt Doyle for MLS.
  • Here is a part of his game that Ramirez could improve on: 25 shots, 11 on target. Its a decent rate, but its still 3rd lowest percentage among top 10 goal scorers. 5 goals went in for a 20 percent conversion rate, which is a little low too.

Francisco Calvo has become captain of the Loons and becomes stronger and stronger every week. Early season mistakes have now turned into big defensive plays. By Andy Greder for the Pioneer Press.

The numbers have been crunched and the MLS Cup winner for 2017 will be... Minnesota United. By Scott French for Four Four Two.
