Some Soccer News for Sep 6, 2016

It's Day 250 of 2016.

USMNT Final World Cup qualifying semifinal round game:
-Tue Sep 6
USA v Trinidad + Tobago - EverBank Field, Jacksonville FL - 7:00pm CT on FS1 + Univision

Technically the USA has not qualified for the Hex yet. A win tonight will do the trick and give USA first place in the group. This is what they should fulfill without question.

Pregame notes on both teams. From US Soccer.

Matt Besler was released from the USA roster to go be with his new born daughter. Congrats to his family.

DeAndre Yedlin is also off roster for tonight due to Yellow Card accumulation suspension.

Is it the dawning of a new era, for American players in Europe? By Brian Sciaretta of the New York Times.

My Minnesota United Notes:
  • A very good solid team win over OKC. The margin on the scoreboard was nervously small, but the margin of quality play was enormous. With the same effort on another night the score could have been 4-0.
  • Great team goal for MN with Lance Laing, and Jamie Watson passing to Christian Ramirez to finish.
  • Both Laing and Watson had their best games of the season.
  • Loons switching things up formation wise with a 4-1-4-1.
  • Another shut out for the defense and keeper Sammy Ndjock. If you can't score you must stop the other team for finishing
  • Since being humiliated at home by Miami on Aug 6 they have only given up 2 goals in 6 games.
  • Maybe the only negative from the game for Minn was that Ibson did not have a particularly good night, or rather he was quite invisible.
