Its official, Fabian Castillo has left Dallas with a deal in place to begin his career in Turkey at Trabzonspor. The waiting was the hardest part.
  • Apparently its a loan deal until Jan 1 and then Trabzon must buy or return the used goods.

Rayo OKC is circling the toilet bowl! In the past 2 days Spanish ownership has severed relations with American business partners in the club and then cleaned out some of the coaches and staff.
  • Head coach Alen Marcina resigned and has been replaced by Vallecano assistant Gerard Nus.
  • The club management is now engaged is massive cost cutting.
  • The mother club in Madrid was relegated from La Liga at the end of last season and is in an overall cost cutting mode.
  • Rumors of player revolt swirled, but as of now that has not happened. I am sure they want to keep their jobs.
  • OKC plays at the Cosmos on Sunday.

Andy Smith was a long time executive with Atlanta Silverbacks and is now running a new USL startup to be called Reno 911 FC. From Dirty South Soccer.
  • He had a very interesting thing to say about the future of the USL: "The USL will definitely become a 2nd Division league and based on how quickly it is growing, could get to a point where it could split into a 2nd and 3rd Division and create Promotion and Relegation between the two. That would be very cool and something fans would love."

Brazil's men's team got their Olympics off to the same level of lame they showed at the 2014 World Cup and the 2015 + 2016 Copa Americas.
  • The hosts began the tournament yesterday with a 0-0 game against South Africa. Oof.

Nigeria's men won their opening game at the Olympics 5-4 over Japan. A huge score. But that's not the story. The Nigerians were stranded in Atlanta after their federation made a complete hash of the flight plan to Brazil. Argentina has a new national team coach, which is always news, but this coach is different, a sort of miracle worker type, in unassuming Edgardo Bauza. And his nickname is Bigfoot! By Jonathan Wilson of the Guardian.
