Some Soccer News for Aug 26, 2016

It's Day 239 of 2016.

Word came out this afternoon that Clint Dempsey is having a medical exam due to an irregular heartbeat. By Matt Pentz of the Seattle Times.
  • Lets hope he is OK. Heart issues sound very scary to me.
  • He will not be in uniform for Seattle in their big match on Sunday and most likely not be named to the USA World Cup qualifying roster.

Who will be on this USMNT roster for World Cup qualifiers on Sep 2 and 6? Here are some ways you can narrow down the list and make an educated guess. By Brian Straus of Sports Illustrated.
  • The strongest position for the USA is forward if you can believe that! Bobby Wood, Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore can all get the job done, and Clint and Jozy are tearing up MLS right now.
  • I would expect there to be changes in the roster for the 2 games.

beIN network announced in early June that they would begin to show Conference USA college football on Saturday nights starting Sep 3. Wrap your head around this concept: Thierry Henry, assistant coach. Yup. He is going to be the assistant to Roberto Martinez who was recently hired as head coach of the Belgian national team. Odd. And interesting.

I'm really hoping we can see Altidore and Wood up top for the US, as I think Altidore could slot into Dempsey's position nicely. Other than that, just glad to see consistency in the US squad, and hoping for that same core of defenders and a similar lineup that we have been playing with lately.
