Some Soccer News for May 12, 2016

It's Day 133 of 2016.

Kei Kamara is a Rev. And I bet he is not very happy about it!
That didn't take long. He blew up the Crew on Saturday, so they shipped him north in a matter of days. New England gives up salary cap money, a couple draft picks and 1 international roster spot, AKA a big pile of assets, to get Kamara.
  • I guess this can be seen is a good move for New England, but scoring is not their issue, its physical toughness and mental fortitude. They have 1 win this season.
  • Where are the goals going to come from for Columbus? Are you kidding me? Kamara had 22 last year, and 5 already this year. They lost a lot in this deal.

Canada Soccer president Victor Montagliani has been elected as the new CONCACAF president. Congrats and good luck to him. He has a lot of bullshit to overcome. The federation is an embarrassment.
  • His main rival for the job was Larry Mussenden of Bermuda. Which means that the Caribbean countries did not vote for "their man" en masse this time around. Interesting.

This is what is going on behind the scenes by the organizers of 2014 Winter Olympics Sochi and 2018 World Cup Russia: State-run doping. Vitaly Mutko is/was the man heading up both events. By Rebecca Ruiz + Michael Schwirtz of the New York Times.
  • My question is this: If Russia is running major doping programs why wouldn't the USA and every other country be doing it too?

MLS Week 11 (5 midweek games)
-Wed May 11
Philadelphia Union 2-2 LA Galaxy
Colorado Rapids 1-0 Sporting Kansas City
Dallas 2-1 Portland Timbers
Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 Chicago Fire
San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 Houston Dynamo
Coming up:
-Fri May 13
DC United v New York Red Bulls

My MLS Notes:
  • Ho Hum, just 2 more goals for 61 year old Blas Perez (Vancouver.) Including this monster game winning stunner! [VIDEO] I have no idea how this guy does it, but if he is properly rested he is a machine on the field. And of course a giant pain in the ass for the opponent.
  • Colorado - WTF! Another win.
  • Kansas City - WTF! Another loss.
  • It drives me nuts that Portland coach Caleb Porter is such a smug whiner. He can never give the other team proper credit. There is always a caveat. Last nights game winner for Dallas was "a fluke." Dude your record so far this season is not due to bad luck. You lost good players and failed to replace them!
  • Other then Clark for Houston - they are terrible. And they have a fair amount of decent attacking players on the roster. The defense is particularly awful.
  • One nice/odd story for the Dynamo last night - goalkeeper Tyler Deric got a Red Card in the 79th minute, after the team had made all 3 subs. So fullback Jalil Anibaba became the keeper. He even made a 1-on-1 save, oh yeah!
  • After a very slow start Vancouver, the team I picked to win MLS Cup, has grabbed 10 points from the last 5 games. Going in the right direction.
