Some Soccer News for April 5, 2016

It's Day 96 of 2016.

SKC going retro! From what I have heard, these will not be worn in a game, just for warm ups. Gloriously ugly:

Goalkeeper Cody Cropper, from the Twin Cities, is getting his 3rd consecutive start for MK Dons in the English Championship (2nd div) today.
  • Unfortunately they lost the previous two, so you know he is out to carry that clean sheet home.
  • They also sit in the final relegation spot, 5 points from safety with 7 games left in the season.

Kurt Cobain committed suicide 22 years ago today, in 1994. The last days of his life were not pretty. By Neil Strauss of Rolling Stone. (Article originally published Summer 1994)
  • I remember where I was when I heard the news on April 8th. (Little did we know he had already been dead 3 days by that time.) I was at home packing a bag when the phone rang with the bad news. I had been putting things together to take a band to perform on Radio K in Minneapolis. To say things got weird is an understatement. I don't remember if the band performed live-on-air or not. I also don't remember if any of us got anything done that day. It was shocking.

La Liga: Barcelona - 6 point lead with 6 games left to play.
Premier League: Leicester - 7 point lead with 6 games left to play.

  • Its very weird typing the name Leicester among that group of legendary teams.

Gonzalo Higuain was Red Carded in Napoli's match at Udinese last weekend, and his reaction was very similar to that of Jermaine Jones in the New England playoff game last Fall, getting in the referees face, pushing, shoving, grabbing and screaming. For that Higuain got an extra 3 game suspension (4 total). Jones got 6 games total. Maybe the MLS punishment was a bit harsh. I thought so.

dN

Juventus has gone 21 games without a loss in Serie A.

Long time great Italian coach, player and father Cesare Maldini has passed away at age 84. RIP.
