What is going on with the San Antonio Scorpions?
-Sunday they fired head coach Alen Marcina at the airport baggage claim.
-Monday they announced that they had re-signed talented winger Bill Forbes.
-Wednesday they sold their stadium to the city + county, and those entities announced that the facility would be leased to the NBA San Antonio Spurs.
-Also on Wednesday the Spurs announced that they intended to field a team in USL next season (2016,) with hopes to move to MLS at some point. Story by Chris Hockman of the Examiner.
-As part of the purchase agreement the Spurs organization paid the Scorpions $3M for an undisclosed purpose.
-So where does that leave the Scorpions? Do they have a place to play? Is there still a team?
-WTF?

In 2015 NASL currently fields 11 teams.
-Minnesota United are leaving for MLS, but no date is set. But rumors say 2016 will be their last in the 2nd division.
-Atlanta Silverbacks are in limbo, being league owned and with a MLS team set to take the field in that city in 2017.
-And now the ambiguity of San Antonio's future, with potential for immediate negative consequences.
-Odds are good that NASL will be 9 teams when the 2016 season kicks off.
-Puerto Rico and Miami are scheduled to join half way through the 2016 season taking, the league back to 11. (Or up to 13 if Atl and SA don't go away.)
-It was reported on Wednesday that another new team will be announced in the next 10 days. But no start date is rumored yet.
-Best case scenario sees 14 teams in 2016.
-And yet the league has stated on the record that they will field anywhere from 15 to 18 teams next season.
-I am having a tough time sorting through that math and getting the desired answer.
-I guess that means there is more news to come to make at least 15.

US Soccer has announced that MLS teams will not be allowed to field their own USL teams in the US Open Cup for 2016. For some reason I didn't even bother to read about the decision making behind this move.

Were you a fan of Lou Reed? Do you know who he was? If you really liked any pop music from the 70s onward that took risks then you heard things he strongly influenced. But who was he really? The New York Times looks at his biography. Thanks to Paul for the heads up.
