WHAT A JOKE

Thierry Henry showed again last night why he is the most baffling player in the league. One minute he is amazing and gracious, the next he is a cheap shot punk. Last night near the end of New York's game against Kansas City he attempted a weird sideways head butt move on KC's Kei Kamara and kinda whiffed on it, then went to the ground like HE had been head butted. He spent the last few minutes of the game walking around holding his head like an alien baby was about to burst out of it, and after the whistle he could be seen dabbing his lip with his shirt is come bizarre attempt to find blood(?) to maybe prove he was the one attacked, when in reality the video clearly showed him running into a completely unaware Kamara. What a confusing guy. Love/Hate.

THIS ARTICLE HAS APPARENTLY NOT BEEN WRITTEN IN A COUPLE OF YEARS, SO ITS THAT TIME AGAIN: SOCCER IS THE SPORT OF THE FUTURE IN AMERICA

"It is a true community. The only group that comes close are college sports fans or followers of the Grateful Dead. They embrace soccer as a communal lifestyle as opposed to a personal experience or a community that only exists on gameday."

Roger Bennett of ESPN talks to a researcher who says the time is coming for soccer to become a huge sport in America.

FACT OF THE DAY

Chris Wondolowski moved back into a tie with Chivas USA for the MLS golden boot at 21 goals each.
-Oh wait, Chivas is a whole team with only 21 goals! Same numbers as Wondo!

STAT OF THE DAY

MLS MATCH NOTES

The Red Bulls appear to have sunk to a new all time low drawing only 10k to a game for first place this late in the season. There are no excuses for a team to be run that poorly in the sales department. Especially one with all that money. Pretty pathetic.

dN

Chris Wondolowski came on as a sub as he said "tried to put 90 minute sof effort into 30 minutes of work." He did! 2 more goals. 21 on the season with 5 regular season games left to play. Wow.

I enjoy your blog very much, but Bruce, why do you have such difficulty harshly characterizing "foul play" when it is committed by Thierry Henry or Carlos Ruiz ?

You just characterized Henry's cheap, phony play against Kei Kamara as merely "baffling," rather than as dirty or cheap.

You used to do the same thing with Carlos Ruiz and all of his nasty, dirty, cheap fouls.

I wonder if you're just a little hesitant to characterize Henry and Ruiz as "dirty" because you fear being perceived as "racist."

?????????
Racism?

Anyone who has ever read this blog would be familiar with the fact that it has never pulled punches against people (look for any time Bruce mentions Rafa Marquez).
Henry is baffling because we just got done talking about how great and gracious he is on the podcast.

geez.

Red Bulls pathetic attendance is mystifying, as for all their problems, they are entertaining to watch. Seems ludicrous to me that MLS is hell bent on adding another NYC area team when RBNY does such a poor job of getting crowds to their terrific stadium.
