Team USA World Cup Qualifying Viewing Party In The Twin Cities - Tue Sep 11 v Jamaica

dN

Charleston are the 2012 USL Pro Champions! Huge congrats to them.

dN

The USA U20 Women won the World Cup on Saturday beating heavy favorites Germany 1-0. Huge congrats to them.
-The USA has lost 0-3 to Germany in the group stage.

STORY OF THE DAY

Alecko Eskandarian, former MLS player and Development Academy technical director, writing for Sports Illustrated on the dilemma that the new 10 month season has created for elite youth soccer players.
-This is a guy who has been there, done that and clearly gets it. So it doesn't surprise me at all the Eskie has some good ideas on improving things.

MINNESOTA STARS FC

Another game another non-win. 9 in a row now, but miraculously still coasting into a playoff spot. 3 games remain and the Stars have an 8 point gap on the final playoff position. Their next shot to seal the deal is on Tuesday.

Jamie Watson made his Stars debut to the delight of the fans, who have ridiculed him in good humor for the past 7 years by deriding every player from every other team they play that appears to fall down without much assistance with a chorus of, "You dive like Jamie Watson."

Why they are playing on a night of international World Cup qualifiers is beyond more peoples comprehension, but shows a real lack of attention to detail on someone(s) part.

TEAM USA - EL EQUIPO DE TODOS

World Cup Qualifying

There were only 3 upsets in the whole world last week: USA (lost to Jamaica), Norway (lost to Iceland) and Uruguay (lost to Colombia).

I think that was one of the worst USA losses in modern history. Yes they have been humiliated by much better teams, and had some hard to take losses in the World Cup. But this Jamaica team was not good at all. They were amazing athletes with tons of speed and strength, not to mention determination and will, but they are a bad soccer team. That is what made it such a miserable loss for the USA.

The USA has also gone three qualifiers now without a convincing performance. They could not put away a nothing Antigua + Barbuda, they had Guatemala right where they wanted them on the road but got out foxed, and then were visibly inferior to Jamaica. That is 0 for 3 under Klinsmann in my book

Clarence Goodson will not be available for Tuesday after picking up his 2nd yellow card of the round.

Carlos Bocanegra will start on Tuesday in place of Goodson, so says the head coach.

Steve Cherundolo will also be back to full health after a calf muscle strain, and could be in the first 11 or at least on the bench.

Nick Rimando has replaced Sean Johnson on the roster as the 3rd goalkeeper as scheduled.

US Soccer with pre-game notes for tomorrow nights very important game.

US Soccer gives us 2 videos:
-Head coach Jurgen Klinsmann talks about the flop in Kingston.
-MNT Back Home in Columbus

The LA Galaxy had a reserve game against Portland today and Landon Donovan stepped on the field as a sub, the next thing you know he sets up Pat Noonan for a goal and scores one himself. The USA sure could use him tomorrow. Can he fly to Cowtown tonight and show up announced?!?!?

Greg Lalas of MLSsoccer.com with 5 observations from USA training on Sunday.

Simon Borg at MLSsoccer.com feels that Landon Donovan was deeply missed on Friday night. You can say that again.

Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch on the energy building there for the game on Tuesday.

Mitchell also writes about what the USA needs to improve so as to change the scoreline.

IN OTHER NEWS: Carlos Bocanegra will stay at Racing Santander after all. There had been questions as to whether or not the paper work had been properly filed for his loan from Rangers. And its not been answered in the affirmative.

PICTURE OF THE DAY

The coolest part of next years Colorado Rapids jersey is NOT that it looks similar to an old Arsenal shirt as the headline in the Denver Post says, but rather that in fine print the jersey contains the names of every season ticket holder from this season. Now THAT is cool.

Coach Klinsmann is on contract for $2.5 million anually until August 2014. If the US doesn't make it to Brazil, do you think the contract has some clause to terminate employment or would US Soccer still be on the hook for 1-2 years? How unsuccessful would he have to be to cause a replacement of Sunil Gulati? I'm not hating here. As a US Soccer fan I want nothing but reasonable success, & was just wondering. Thanks.

you are asking all the big bold questions Dominic. I agree, I don't want to be negative cuz I love this team but those are real questions. Sorry but I dont have any answers for you. I would suspect that if by some insane act they got knocked out of this round or the next that the coaches contract says they can fire him. And you would have to think that Gulati would have to go with him. But who has the power over Gulati? I have no idea. Would he resign? Great stuff to ponder, and hopefully this is the last time we even consider it.
Thanks for making my brain work a little.
