Some Soccer News for Tue Aug 21, 2012

STARTERS

In a time when everything about American soccer is growing, we just finished the first round of the new season in the English Premier League and the only 2 American players to see the field were both goalkeepers. Feels like a step backwards doesn't it?

STORY OF THE DAY

The always amazing Steve Sirk has a great tribute to recently deceased Kirk Urso from the Columbus Crew.

Wednesday starts us off with serious playoff implications for DC v Chicago.

Saturday has another leg of the Cascadia Cup: Portland v Vancouver.

And Sunday has the biggest game of the week, on national television too, Kansas City v New York at 8:00pm CT on ESPN2

DU NORD AT THE CONTROLS

CONCACHAMPIONS 2012-13

Tonight is a MUST WIN game for RSL, while Houston and LA join the party for the first time this season later in the week.

Kyle McCarthy at Fox Soccer previews Tauro, FAS and Meatpan - the opponents for RSL, Houston and LA.
-You will probably remember Tauro centerback Luis Moreno as they guy who kicked the injured owl on the field in Colombia last year.

James Edward of the Deseret News calls tonight gut check time for Salt Lake.

The Salt Lake Tribune writes that its a must win game tonight for RSL.

Nick Green of the Daily Breeze looks to see if the Galaxy are taking this tournament seriously.
-In the past they have been accused by some of not making it a priority.
