-They will be showing all USA away World Cup qualifiers EXCEPT those from Mexico.

dN

San Jose Earthquakes will have a "major announcement" about their new stadium project on Saturday. Fantastic!!

dN

5 American played in the UEFA Europa League today - see details below in Americans In Europe section.

STORY OF THE DAY

Geoffrey Arnold of the Oregonian talks to Portland Timbers general manager and interim head coach Gavin Wilkinson about the heavy criticism he is hearing from some of the fans.

What this article fails to address is that for many years there is a segment of the fan base that has not liked Wilkinson, and this latest chapter only adds to their fire. This is nothing new in Portland, just at a new level of frustration.

CONCACHAMPIONS 2012-13

Houston joined the party from MLS by traveling to Salvadoran power Club Deportivo Futbolistas Asociados Santanecos aka FAS and backing over them with a large dump truck.

Two very impressive things happened for Houston last night:
1. They only had 1 regular in their starting 11 - centerback Bobby Boswell. The other 10 were all reserves!
2. They had never won on the road in CCL before.

Will Landon Donovan play for LA tonight or not? He has a hamstring strain from the USA game in Mexico City (remember he came off at half time.)

BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD ALL DAY

OPENING WEEKEND IN THE WORLD'S BIGGEST LEAGUES

Opening weekend begins tomorrow in Germany and Saturday in Italy!

Bundesliga
Matches + Scores:
-Fri Aug 24
Borussia Dortmund v Werder Bremen - 1:30pm CT on GolTV
Sat Aug 25
Borussia Monchengladbach v Hoffenheim
Freiburg v Mainz
Augsburg v Fortuna Dusseldorf
Hamburger v Nurnberg
Greuther Furth v Bayern Munich - 8:30am CT on GolTV
Eintracht Frankfurt v Bayer Leverkusen - 11:30am CT on GolTV
Stuttgart v Wolfsburg - 1:45pm CT on GolTV
-Sun Aug 26
Hannover v Schalke - 10:30am CT on GolTV

If we go by the assumption that Dortmund and Bayern are the clear favorites to fight for the title, then the only othe question becomes - Are there any other teams that could chase? And those candidates are:
-Leverkusen - last season finished 5th
-Gladbach - last season finished 4th
-Hamburg - last season finished 15th
-Hannover - last season finished 7th
-Hoffenheim - last season finished 11th
-Schalke - last season finished 3rd
-Stuttgart - last season finished 6th
-Bremen - last season finished 9th
-Wolfsburg - last season finished 8th
So do any of them have what it takes? Schalke maybe, or someone else we can't predict yet?

Serie A Matches + Scores:
-Sat Aug 25
Fiorentina v Udinese - 10:55am CT on beIN
Juventus v Parma - 1:40pm CT on beIN
-Sun Aug 26
Milan v Sampdoria - 6:00pm CT (DELAYED) on beIN
Atalanta v Lazio
Chievo v Bologna
Genoa v Cagliari
Palermo v Napoli - 8:00pm CT (DELAYED) on beIN
Pescara v Internazionale
Roma v Catania
Siena v Torino

Juventus is picked to win again, but how do they operate without head coach Antonio Conte for 10 months? Who else could challenge:
Fiorentina - last season finished 13th
Inter - last season finished 6th
Lazio - last season finished 4th
Milan - last season finished 2nd
Napoli - last season finished 5th
Udinese - last season finished 3rd
Roma - last season finished 7th
I think we might be in for a big surprise from Roma.

A-MAZ-ING

Its not just the rebranding of the Kansas City Wizards to Sporting Kansas City, or opening a state of the art new stadium in Livestrong Sporting Park, its starting an spinning off a whole new business that combines high tech, with stadiums and fan experience that has made KC the most amazing success story in the current iteration of MLS.

Kevin Collison of the Kansas City Star writes about the immediate success of their new company Sporting Innovations.

PODCAST OF THE DAY

Glenn Davis does a great interview with Geoff Cameron before his official arrival at Stoke and post-USA win in Mexico. Download or listen here.
-On the show Cameron called the win in Mexico City first and foremost "a relief."
-Cameron said head coach Jurgen Klinsmann told the players before the game: If everybody on the field is together, everybody, then you can win. It takes everyone.
-Traits that Cameron feels coming from Klinsmann: Positive, influential, open minded, lets players express themselves, possession out of back, wants creativity and individuality, tells players to express themselves (gives Shea as an example), strength/conditioning, and diet.
