Some Soccer News for Mon Aug 27, 2012

STARTERS

Michael Bradley went the full 90 in his debut at Roma, but the team could only manage a tie in the season opener on a last minute pass from Bradley to Nicolas Lopez.

dN

Terrible news for Sporting Kansas City's run for the MLS title: "Sporting Kansas City forward Teal Bunbury suffered a torn ACL and damaged LCL in his left knee during Sunday's 1-1 draw against the New York Red Bulls, the team announced on Monday. Bunbury will undergo surgery on Friday under the care of the team's orthopedic surgeon Dr. Scott Luallin and is expected to miss six to eight months."

dN

Real Madrid dropped 3 more points in week 2 as they lost their derby game to Getafe 2-1. Unreal.
-That is 5 points lost to Barcelona already.

STORY OF THE DAY

Geoff Cameron made his debut at Stoke City in the English Premier League to rave reviews and on Monday morning graced the front of the team website. Here's the story.

NOTE: Stoke City is also just waiting to hear that Maurice Edu has been cleared by FIFA (because of all of Rangers legal issues) to join the team from Rangers. The player and team have already reached a contract agreement, and have applied for an English work permit.

MINNESOTA STARS FC

The Stars again failed to get a win, its been ..... The good thing is that the two teams out of the playoff race failed to gain any ground on them.

The next home game is Breast Cancer Awareness Night. The Stars will wear special pink uniforms, and auction them during the game. All proceeds go to Rock the Cure.

BEST IDEA I'VE HEARD ALL DAY

LA Galaxy has hired Ante Razov as a coach in their academy system.

I know this, if I was a kid wanting to become a striker he would be a great player to learn from. When Razov was in his prime he was a thoroughbred goal poacher.

Y'ALL READY FOR THIS?

Noah Davis of Grantland with the story of the newest soccer channel in America - beIN.
-Its amazing to think that we have 3 dedicated soccer channels to chose from in the USA

HMMMMM, VERY INTERESTING

Geoffrey Arnold of the Oregonian writes that the Portland Timbers have offered the position of head coach to Caleb Porter the current head coach of the University of Akron, who was also head coach of the failed USA Olympic bid last spring.
-There are supposedly a lot of other people in the mix for this job.

FACT OF THE DAY

Wow. Another scoreless game for PSG. That makes 3 games and 3 ties! Its like they took several hundred million dollars and burned it in the fire pit out behind the farm house.

STAT OF THE DAY

14,121 was the attendance at the Portland reserve league game on Sunday. 5 or 6 MLS teams would be excited to have that at a regular league game.

A-MAZ-ING

During the NBC Sports Network broadcast of Sunday's LA v Dallas game play by play man Arlo White said that none of the regular Galaxy back four - Sean Franklin, Omar Gonzalex, AJ DeLaGarza and Todd Dunivant, has ever been given a red card. Wow.

OOF

There is no reason for Glasgow Rangers to drop any points this season as they are playing in the Scottish 4th tier, but in two road games they have only managed ties. Brutal.

THIS IS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT

Ives Galarcep of Fox Soccer with this weeks Top 5 Americans Abroad.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

The man with possibly the best Rock 'n' Roll hair to ever grace an MLS field, Juan Toja, is BAAAAAAAAAACK. He was signed today by the New England Revolution. (He was to get his visa etc still before he can play.)
-The league posted these video highlights from his initial run with FC Dallas in 2007 + 08.

Toja played in 45 total games during those two seasons, scoring 8 goals.

And most memorably on Oct 11, 2007 FC Dallas hosted Juan Toja Wig Night.
-I still have mine sealed in the original packaging. Probably worth millions.
-And a very special part of this Wig Night preview video is that it features the great wit of the sadly deceased Bobby Rhine. RIP Bobby.

PICTURE OF THE DAY

"Do ya see that?"
"Yeah, yeah I see it."
"Do you know what that is?"
"Uuuuuh, no."
"That is Eddie Johnson's Penalty Kick shot from the US Open Cup final still heading toward mars."
"Wasn't that like 18 days ago?"
"Yup. And its still going."
