-But they will be the Cosmos in name alone. No big name player is going to come play in the 2nd division.
-Statement on the Cosmos from MLS Commissioner Don Garber: "We welcome the Cosmos’ entrance to the NASL. Having a vibrant second division is important to the overall growth and popularity of soccer in North America and we are pleased to see the NASL add a new franchise. Major League Soccer remains committed to securing an expansion team in New York City. The current focus is on exploring a stadium site, but we will continue discussions with several potential ownership groups including the Cosmos, about the possibility of joining the efforts to bring a second MLS team to New York."

STAT OF THE DAY

Seattle has won 18 consecutive games in the US Open Cup. (14 of them at home.)

OOF

Philadelphia goalkeeper Zac MacMath made 2 huge blunders last night in the Open Cup Semifinals that cost his team that game. What in the world was going on?

On the first he lets a looping header go over him like he thinks its going out of play, when instead it goes right over his head and into the net. Terrible.

The second goal saw the keeper run out of his box to clear a long ball only to head it straight to a Kansas City player who punches it straight into the open net from mid field.

You don't see anyone make two plays that awful in one game very often.

See the game video highlights here interspersed with post game interviews.

On ESPN deportes website, there is info on the new league LigaMX from Mexico on how Spain players are invading the Mexican D1 and other Europe players looking in. Also, quick question, NASL and USL should combine powers and ownership to make MLS2 and MLS3 should be a reserve league for MLS, like Triple A baseball does it. That way MLS1 and MLS2 should be very strong leagues and MLS3 the reserve league.Imagine MLS3, like Houston Dynamo putting their reserve team in Tulsa, being Tulsa Dynamo.
