Semifinals

Both Spanish teams are out, and the dream finish that so many wanted is not going to happen. Bayern Munich pulled off a great match and advanced to the final in a Penalty Kick Shootout.

Ever more dramatically both advancing teams won while playing the second game on the road.

And now Bayern will get to play the Final in their home stadium as was previously already picked to host the game.

WHAT A JOKE

It appears as though homophobia is alive and well in the top levels of Mexican soccer.

Yahoo reports that the Mexican Football Federation will not punish two players who pretended to kiss after one of them scored a goal, but the federation did release a statement saying "This kind of image cannot be allowed before the public, fans, children. It cannot be seen as a good example."

So remember kids, if you are in the presence of a member of the Mexican football federation do not be seen kissing a member of the same sex.

BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD ALL DAY

Joe Cannon has a blog! Its about goalkeeping.
QUESTION OF THE DAY

Why in the world is Portland playing a friendly against Aston Villa on the same night as the MLS All-Star Game against Chelsea?

WELL WELL WELL

New football writing quarterly magazine XI hit their Kickstarter fundraising goal today!

STAT OF THE DAY

Do you want to know why I think it might be difficult for a MLS team to break into the Twin Cities sports market? Here are the per-game average number of tickets sold to the top 7 sports teams already in the market:
Vikings 62,800
Gopher football 50,800
Twins 34,200
Wild 17,800
Timberwolves 17,600
Gopher basketball 13,700
Gopher hockey 10,200

That is a lot of tickets already sold. And I am not even addressing the dozens of other factors that make this market unique.
