Some Soccer News for Thu Apr 12, 2012

STARTERS

So, what is it really like to be the coach of Egypt. Check out this insanity! From Ahram:
-National team's American coach says his recent comments to BBC, in which he held SCAF responsible for Port Said violence, were taken out of context
-Egypt's FA considers suing BBC over Bradley's SCAF comments

Mohsen Saleh who last coached Egypt in 2004 went so far as to say this about Bob Bradley: "...accused him of being part of a "conspiracy" orchestrated by American NGOs operating in Egypt."

DU NORD AT THE CONTROLS

du Nord at the Controls - Tue Apr 10, 2012 - new music mix at Spotify.

STORY OF THE DAY

Brian Mullan of the Colorado Rapids will make his first appearance in Seattle since his awful foul on Sounder midfielder Steve Zakuani resulted in a several broken leg.

"...my advice (to the fans) is just let it go and support the team..."
-Zakuani

Don Ruiz of the Tacoma News Tribune has several quotes from Zakuani, who is just starting to see minutes in reserve games, about Mullan coming to Seattle to play.
-Short comments from both Seattle GM Adrian Hanauer and head coach Sigi Schmid.

Art Thiel of Sportspress Northwest writes that fans should be beyond reproach when it comes to treating Mullan.

TEAM USA - EL EQUIPO DE TODOS

If World Cup qualifying began today I know who I would pick as 10 of my 11 USA starters.
F: Dempsey - Altidore - Gomez
M: Jones - Bradley - Donovan
D: Chandler - Bocanegra - ? - Cherundolo
G: Howard

So, who is my other centerback?
The list of possibles:
-Geoff Cameron
-Clarence Goodson
-Michael Orozco Fiscal
-Michael Parkhurst
-Tim Ream

Remember that Oguchi Onyewu is out injured.

WHAT A JOKE

That old Pele fella cracks me up!

Even Neymar is laughing at Pele for saying Messi could not be better than Pele because Messi was not even better than Neymar.

Its quite an accomplishment to sound dumber and more xenophobic than Maradonna.

BIG EUROPEAN CLUB MATCHES

Matches & Scores:
-Wed Apr 11
Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Bayern Munchen - Oh Yeah! The win gives #1 a 6 point lead over #2 with just 4 games left to play.
Juventus v Lazio - the win jumps Juve back to #1 in Serie A
Atletico Madrid 1-4 Real Madrid - the Madrid derby is not even close, as usual

-Sat Apr 14
Schalke v Borussia Dortmund - a possible stumbling block for the league leaders

HMMMMM, VERY INTERESTING

The house cleaning at Liverpool got started today as the highly touted Director of Football Damien Comolli left "by mutual consent."
-He was in charge for about 18 months and spent one helluva lot of money for some pretty mediocre results.

Its good to see Liverpool not just do the easy thing and get rid of the head coach, although he needs to go too, but must rebuild the whole unit not just the brain.

FACT OF THE DAY

Nicholas Anelka's team in China, Shanghai Shenhua has gotten off to such a poor start this season under head coach Jean Tigana, France and Fulham fans know him, that they have named Anelka as an Assistant Coach.
-That should do the trick. Right?

VIDEO OF THE DAY

I love this!

The Guardian goes with Joey Barton on a tour of the National Portrait Gallery in London - a video camera and microphone in hand.
-Hilarious hearing him comment on Lucian Freud's work.

FYI - the National Portrait Gallery in London might be my favorite art gallery I have ever been to. I love the place.
