Some Soccer News for Wed Feb 8, 2012

STARTERS

Fabio Capello has quit as coach of England, over the FA's decision to not allow the idiot John Terry to be captain.
-I guess Capello felt undermined by the decision and could not be in charge of his team at Euro 2012.
-Stuart Pearce has been named interim head coach.
-Wayne Rooney chimes in on Twit: "Gutted capello has quit. Good guy and top coach. Got to be english to replace him. Harry redknapp for me."

dN

STORY OF THE DAY

Yesterday we posted a link (in Spanish) to an article in Colombia quoting recent New England signing Pepe Moreno as saying he changed his mind and now wants to stay at Once Caldas. The original story was posted on the Liga Postobon website, which is the official first division league in Colombia.

So the theory of his quotes being taken out of context or fabricated are pretty remote.

Last night New England tweeted this: "Re: Jose Moreno - We're looking into the report out of Colombia, but Jose signed all of his paperwork, including his contract, last week"

If a player doesn't want to go somewhere its pretty hard to make him do it.

STORY OF THE DAY 2

Fox Houston reports that Dynamo keeper Tyler Deric was tazed by the cops who arrested him on Saturday night. Deric's friends say a melee started when the club refused entrance to black members of their party.
-Another story that does not mention the soccer players appears to be covering the same incident.

Warren Creavalle who is also with the Dynamo this preseason was also arrested at the scene.

Teammates Alex Dixon and Will Bruin were out with the two who got arrested.

FIFASCANDALIZATIONINGS

Lasana Liburd of Wired868.com reports that police in Trinidad & Tobago raided the countries football federation offices this morning and seized assets as a way to pay off the lawsuit won by players from the 2006 World Cup.

HMMMMM, VERY INTERESTING

Brian Straus of Sporting News with an article on one of the most volatile people in soccer in America today, and becoming more so seemingly by the month - Eric Wynalda.

STAT OF THE DAY

The Columbus Crew commissioned a report that says their stadium has created nearly $400 Million in cash flow for the city.

I doubt we would ever hear about that report if it said anything other than mega-positive news.

BIG PIMPIN

Introducing the Bumpy Pitch St Pauli shirt:

"We have long been inspired by the club and what they stand for and have had an idea to do a St. Pauli inspired shirt for awhile. And now that time has come. The most iconic imagery that you will find for St. Pauli is the skull and crossbones. This has been adopted by the supporters and it is present in just about all things St. Pauli. So we decided to keep things consistent and stick with that imagery, but we flipped it up our own way and gave the graphic a Bumpy Pitch feel."

Buy this gorgeous new shirt right here.
