STORY OF THE DAY

The tax man came for Rangers FC today and they folded to the pressure.

After filing court papers just yesterday to give them 10 days of breathing room to try and sort out their huge debts the Revenue & Customs department went into the same court today to try and have the club declared bankrupt immediately.

This prompted the team to do so voluntarily, and appoint their own administrators to sort out the money, rather than have the court, influenced by the tax dept, appoint someone for them.

The Herald with the report.

This mean Rangers are automatically deducted 10 points in the SPL standings, and any buying new players with be severally scrutinized.

Here is an official press release from the Scottish Premier League.

LANDON DONOVAN AT EVERTON

ESPN has a video interview with Donovan on similar topics.

FIFASCANDALIZATIONINGS

Lasana Liburd of Wired868.com is doing an amazing job covering a very fluid story developing in Trinidad & Tobago where the whole house of cards seems to be crumbling before our eyes. This stuff will blow you away, and it feels like a tiny amount of the full story.

Just take a moment to absorb Liburd's output from the past few days alone:

-New emerging money troubles for Jack Warner who is being accused from all sides of taking in cash and forgetting to dole it out in the manner for which it was intended.

-The heat is turning up directly under Slappy Jack today. The Port of Spain High Court in Trinidad & Tobago has declared that it does not believe Jack Warner has turned over all the accounting in the case of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation as he had been ordered to do.

-This judge is playing hardball!

-Not surprisingly Warner is continuing his Sargent Schultz defense, "I know nuh-ZHING!"

-And the new leadership of T&T football appear to be as "blissfully ignorant of matters" as Warner always came off.

-FIFA has now stopped all payments of any kind to the TTFF until they can account for previous money they have received and also stopped making pension payments to Warner himself.

-All T&T players present and past are really the only ones to suffer in all of this, especially with Olympic (March) and World Cup (June) qualifying coming up very quickly.

dN

Newsday in T&T talks to players rep Brent Sancho who answers to charges from Warner that the players are being greedy.

Bruce, that US kit looks like something found at a grage sale outside MLS head quarters, cirica 1996. Does it come with blow dryers and mullets?

That shirt really does match up to the waldo one, though. They both are throwbacks to the World Cup '94 shirts.

It's been reported that the shirt is a fake, and if you compare the stretched stars on it to the adidas '94 Denim kit, it really looks like someone photshopped that kit together with the new Brazil away and just threw on a US Crest.

So we can all breathe a sigh of relief.
