COUNTDOWN TO MLS 2012 - SEASON 17

STARTERS

NBC Sports Network gives us their first live blast of MLS talk last night with Russ Thaler talking preseason with the voice of MLS on NBC Arlo White. (Video)

dN

Chivas de Guadalajara has hired Dutch master Johan Cruyff to try and help turn around their miserable season.

dN

Lots of MLS preseason games can be seen online this weekend.

TEAM USA

Word is that Italy will announce their roster on Sunday. The Italian press has not given this game 5 words.

dN

Jurgen Klinsmann gives us some insight on his Facebook page. How cool is this:
"The staff and I are extremely busy ahead of the match vs. Italy. On Wednesday, one of our scouts watched Terrence Boyd at the U-23 game Borussia Dortmund vs 1.FC Kaiserslautern. He scored one goal and I called him after the game that he will come to Genoa on Sunday instead of joining the Olympic team in Dallas.
Assistant Coach, Andi Herzog went to see FC Schalke 04 play Victoria Pilsen last night in their Europa League match, although Jermaine Jones didn't play due to a calf injury. One of our other assistants, Martin Vasquez, went to see RSC Anderlecht play AZ Alkmaar last night in their Europa League match. Through our European connections we have had a very productive time. Before heading to Italy, I am going to see Wolfsburg vs. Hoffenheim to watch Danny Williams & Fabian Johnson. I'm looking forward to seeing both players under their new coach Markus Babbel, a former teammate of mine from the German National Team."

dN

Jose Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle talks to Geoff Cameron and his Dynamo coach & teammates about getting the call from the USA for the Italy game.

DO YOU REALIZE

"Where is this league really today? How far has it come? Where does it need to go? I had a statement mentioned to me the other day. It's not 100 percent accurate by any means, but it was an interesting statement. An agent from Europe called me and said Europe is in desperate times right now financially. He goes, 'America has more money now than Europe.' That's not true, but the general consensus is that they have to change the way they do business in Europe, and MLS now is starting to get into the game, which is very encouraging.
The business side of the product has been moved along to where we've been able to survive, and now perhaps our better days are ahead. And everyone around the world recognizes that. I thought that was pretty interesting. Of course there's more money in Europe. But the point is we're becoming players in the game to a certain degree now where we've never been, and a lot of people want to come here. That's interesting to me. The league's much more respected today than it was years ago."

-Bruce Arena

That and a lot more great stuff:
