Some Soccer News for Thu Jan 5, 2012

STARTERS

LA Galaxy centerback Omar Gonzalez has passed up a chance to impress USA coach Jurgen Klinsman so he can go on loan for 6 weeks to German club Nurnberg.
-Does this make any sense at all to anyone? Besides that the Bundesliga does not even resume play until Jan 20! Now, if he was actually transferring there I would have no problem with it. But a couple weeks training?

But a few hours later Brian Sciaretta of Yanks Abroad tweeted out this next picture - Gonzalez on the ground today at Nurnberg getting attention for a knee injury. Status unknown. Let's hope its nothing.

Colorado has announced the hiring of Oscar Pareja as their new head coach. I like this.

dN

OOF! Jermaine Jones of Schalke and the USA has been given an 8 game suspension from the Bundesliga for his deliberate stomping of an already broken foot of an opponent. It went unnoticed by the referee, but an amazing video clip showed him lining up the move and then pretending it was an accident afterward.
-How do you say MORON in German? I am thinking something stronger than a Hogan's Heros-y "dummkopf". How about stecknadelkopf!

TEAM USA - EL EQUIPO DE TODOS

The annual January training camp is currently in effect in Phoenix AZ then moves to Carson CA, and ends with the game in Panama.

Both Omar Gonzalez & George John have left the USA camp (with permission) to attend to "club related matters." So what does that mean? Are they looking for new clubs? Are they being sold? Loaned out? What is going on?
-Brian Straus of Sporting News explains these moves.

Those two have been replaced on the roster by Brad Evans & Jeff Parke both from the Seattle Sounders.
