Some Soccer News for Wed Sep 21, 2011

STARTERS

Inter Milan has fired head coach Gian Piero Gasperini after just 5 games in charge. 1 loss in the Italian Super Cup. 1 loss in the UEFA Champions League. 1 tie and 2 losses in Serie A. And no signs that the team was going anywhere but down in each of those games. Its not Gasperini's fault at all. Its all on owner Massimo Moratti who keeps hiring people who are ill suited to the job (see Rafael Benitez and Leonardo last season.)
-The next manager will be #19 in the 17 years under the Moratti. Ugh.

Claudio Ranieri is the most likely to be named as the replacement.

Bob Bradley is in Egypt meeting with the soccer big wigs. Lots of pictures.

Michael Bradley made his debut for Chievo today in Italy, and they upset Napoli 1-0!

TEAM USA - EL EQUIPO DE TODOS

Herculez Gomez tweeted today that Jose Torres is having foot surgery. How come this is the first we are hearing about this?

@herculezg: Send my hermanito @tuzos18 some good vibes, he's having foot surgery today. He's coming back stronger & better, no doubt! #bless

Tom Marshall of MLSsoccer.com later reports: Torres out for the rest of the (Mexican Primera Apertura) season with fractured fifth metatarsal. Pachuca due to release statement today.

STORY OF THE DAY

Brian Straus of the Sporting News talks real club issues with Columbus Crew president Mark McCullers. This team is struggling in a business sense. Can they turn it around?

On the plus side the game this weekend against LA will most likely be their first sell-out of the season.

2011-12 CONCACACHAMPIONS

Matchday 4

Recap du Nord: Danny Koevermans is becoming the BMOC for Toronto as he leads them to another victory. Seattle got plunked in the junk by the Costa Ricans last night losing at home when a win would have sealed a move to the knockout stages. Now they have to concentrate on more games in this tournament instead of just focusing on the MLS Cup race. And Monterrey got some things moving in the right direction with a strong home win. You really didn't think a team with the many good players would stay crap all season did you?

Daniel Girard of the Toronto Sun with a match report.

Joshua Mayers of Seattle Times with a match report.

Scott French of ESPN wonders if the Galaxy will be intimidated in Costa Rica tonight.

French also relives the trip LA made to Costa Rica in 2006 and the death of team president Doug Hamilton due to a heart attack on the flight home. A very sad memory.

Video highlights from all the games.

FIFA SCANDALIZATIONINGS

Is he or isn't he?

Then FIFA releases this statement straight from bizarro land, saying Oops, our mistake, Hayatou is NOT in charge.
