Some Soccer News for Friday Sep 23, 2011

Hi Kids, Joe the Curmudgeon here again while Brucio is living the high life in NYC. I hope he's having a good time and will take a snapshot or two. Bruce is there to see the Portland Timbers visit to Red Bull Arena and their match against the New York Red Bulls. Perhaps he'll be seated next to Rafa Márquez.

Rafa, one of NYRB's designated players, was suspended for the match by manager Hans Backe for his unkind words towards his teammates and coaches following the team's disapointing showing in a 1-3 defeat at the hands of Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night. It's sad for all involved because the press keeps saying that each game is 'oh so important for NYRB's playoff chances'. Well, this is truly the case with five regular season matches remaining. NYRB will have their hands full with a fearless Portland side who is fighting for a playoff spot of their own.

The match start at 7:30pm Eastern and be available on MSG, MLS Direct Kick or MLS Matchday online.
