Some News for Wed Sep 14, 2011

STARTERS

Rumors are spreading like a sandstorm that Bob Bradley will be announced as the new head coach of the Egyptian national team.
-Any Egyptian readers care to give us their thoughts?

Stumbling Columbus hosts bumbling Houston in MLS action tonight. Both need to get things moving in the right direction as the playoffs approach.
-Columbus needs to fix their offense. Houston their defense. Or is it the other way around?

STORY OF THE DAY

Michael Lewis of Big Apple Soccer turns his column over to Will Smith a long suffering MetroStars/Red Bulls fan who simply can't take it anymore.

2011-12 CONCACACHAMPIONS

Matchday 3

And just like that the myth of a new MLS dominance over MPD teams comes to an end. Who is it that comes up with these goofy theories anyway? Of course I understand the momentous occasions that have happened in the past month. But can't we wait until AFTER the entire group stage is complete and MLS team dominate? Two long overdue road wins is not domination. They are just the end of a negative trend that should have ended long ago.

Recap du Nord: Last night LA got hosed and then handed (literally) away a win at Morelia, who move over LA into 1st place in the group. Colorado gagged badly at home to Santos Laguna and fell from 1st to 3rd. And Metapan (or as I like to call them Meatpan) got a big road win in Honduras pushing them up to a tie for 1st place with Santos.

Andy Friedlander of the Dallas Morning News writes that FCD is preparing for tonight's game without wingers Brek Shea and Marvin Chavez, both worn down by heavy schedules and niggling injuries.

Don Ruiz of the Tacoma News Tribune on what the Sounders are hoping to get from tonight's game in Costa Rica.

Tonight: Seattle travels to Heredia, Costa Rica, while Toronto goes to Mexico City.

Video highlights from all the games.

FIFA SCANDALIZATIONINGS

Richard Conway formerly of Sky and soon to be of the BBC hips us to this bit of news:

FIFA executive member & president of the Football Association of Thailand under Patronage of His Majesty the King (aka FAT) Worawi Makudi is the next in line for the "FIFA corruption investigation." We know they are all crooked as English teeth but you have to wonder what he did to Blatter to bring this on? Beyond the notion that he is the Jack Warner of Asia. (Every corner of the globe has a Jack Warner)
-Australian Journalist Jesse Fink has more on Makudi.

So Sepp Blatter is the Jack Warner of...the whole world? Sounds about right.

Re: Timothy Chandler: I may be mistaken, but I thought FIFA allowed a "one time switch". Chandler played for Germany's youth teams, then switched to the US. Would FIFA allow him to switch back?
