Some News for Wed Jun 8, 2011

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Please join all your soccer friends in the Twin Cities for a special Fund Raising screening of Rise & Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story

Sat Jun 11 at 4:30pm - The Sweetwater in St Paul

USA v Panama game kicks off at 7pm

The movie is still a work in progress and the filmmakers are on a mission to raise funds to finish it. They are using the Kickstarter website to bring in donations and we here at du Nord want to do our part to help them reach their goals. They are still a long way off.

Find out more about the movie here, and we will see you on Saturday.

STARTERS

Saturday June 11 is anniversary of opening day of World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

dN

Two trips to Kansas City in the next week for me. Heading down to the Livestrong Sporting Park grand opening on Thu Jun 9 for SKC v Chicago Fire. Then next week Tue Jun 14 its USA v Guadeloupe. I would love to see you all there. Let me know if you are attending!

STORY OF THE DAY

Jonathan Wilson of the Guardian gives us a tactical review of the 2010-11 European club season.

CONCACAF CHAOS

Bill Archer of Big Soccer tells us about Anton Sealey and Fred Lunn, the two representatives from the Bahamas federation who first brought up the whole mess of the bribes - "Not All Bahamians Are For Sale".

And if you want to show your support of Mr Anton Sealy of the Bahamas, you can do so at this email address. I think we should all tell him we have his back: info@bahamasfa.com

For the next three days FIFA investigators will be in Miami conducting interviews.

The Jamaica Observer reports that some federation have said off the record that they plan to boycott these interviews, and will hold their own meetings somewhere else.

And let's remind ourselves who the ring leader of the investigation is - Chuck Blatter - CONCACAF secratary general and FIFA executive committee member.

It should also be noted that during a 2007 lawsuit brought by credit card company VISA against FIFA the judge in the proceedings said the following about Blazer:
-Mr. Blazer’s testimony was generally without credibility based on his attitude and demeanor and on his evasive answers on cross-examination.
-Based on his evasive answers and his attitude and demeanor, Mr. Blazer’s testimony as to the March 14, 2006 Marketing & TV AG Board meeting is rejected as fabricated.
Not exactly hero material. But charm, he possess in spades.

(Thanks to William for digging up those quotes)
