Some News for Wed Jun 15, 2011

While Dear Leader of du Nord, El Brucio, is recuperating from multiple trips to Kansas City's LIVESTRONG Sporting Park (and all the good BBQ that comes with a trip to KC), tis I, Joe the Curmudgeon, with today's futbol news. Sorry.

MLS Tonight 6/15

Toronto FC make their annual visit to Foxborough, MA for a mid-week match against the New England Revolution. Game time is 8 Eastern, and is viewable on CSN in the Boston area, TSN in the Great White North, and viewable online at MLSsoccer.com for out-of-market MLS Matchday subscribers.
Game Preview from MLS

(fyi, there will probably be about 10 people in the stands for 2 reasons. 1) NE doesn't draw well to begin with, and 2) the NHL Stanley Cup Finals Game 7 [Boston at Vancouver] will air at the same time. Expect more TFC fans in the stands than Revs fans.)

2011 CONCACAF GOLD CUP

But you probably never heard of them on Twitpic

The Elimidate Round Robin play is now complete in all three Groups of Copa Oro, and surprising to some, the United States made it to the Quarterfinal round! OMG! Seriously, many folks felt that Coach Bob Bradley's job was on the line if he didn't get a result last night in Kansas City against "so hip they aren't ranked by FIFA" (see pic above) - Guadalupe from the Windward islands. Fortunately, U.S. Forward Jozy Altidore likes Bob Bradley and scored a scorcher from 25 yards or so in the 9th minute. The U.S. held on for the victory, despite 725 on-goal chances from Clint Dempsey. Clint must not like Coach B too much. Clint was seemed devoid of much emotion last night, so maybe his belly was still full of Gates BBQ Chicken.

Next up for the United States is a match at Washington's RFK stadium, Sunday against Jamaica. That's right, Donovan v Donovan. Just like Kramer v. Kramer. Only not. Match time is 3pm ET and viewable on Fox Soccer Channel, probably Teleftura (en Español), Futbol.Univision.com and CONCACAF.com if you live in Guadalupe.

In the earlier game Tuesday, Canada allowed a late equalizing goal by Panama, and that result required a loss by the US for our Canadian friends to advance. Canada was elimidated. Soccer By Ives on the match:

The five Mexican National Team players who failed a drug test for clenbuterol have now apparently passed a second test. However, Fransisco 'Maza' Rodriguez, Guillermo 'Memo' Ochoa, Edgar Dueñas, Sinha, Ricardo Osorio and Christian 'Hobbit' Bermudez will have to wait for results of a 'B' test until they can be reinstated. More here.

Orlando plays Bolton and Newcastle and San Jose, a MLS team, gets West Bromwich Abion? Dear Lord, but that is actually fitting given the operation they're running up there.
