Some News for Mon Jun 13, 2011

STARTERS

Saturday June 11 was the anniversary of opening day of World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

TEAM USA

Gold Cup

Unacceptable.

A horrific start to game two in the group stage sees the USA go down 2-2 to Panama and fight back but lose 2-1.

The chances were there for the USA to make their mark on this game but they simply weren't good enough at any position on the field.

Chris Wondolowski missed a tap in from 2 yards out on a cross from Jozy Altidore. He will see that one while trying to get to sleep for a long time.

Landon Donovan is the kind of player we need to see take over a game like this with his sheer talent alone. But too many times he was coasting or lacking the killer instinct. He needs to lead, not follow.

And Captain Carlos Bocanegra was probably lucky not to get a red card for his shoulder down hockey check into the chest of a Panama player late in the game. He got a yellow. But it was over the top.

One of the worst displays of the whole game was substitute Alejandro Bedoya taking a dive in the box to try and draw a penalty, instead he was booked for simulation. There is no place for that in our team. I was embarrassed and angry at him for making me feel that way. Boooooooooo Bedoya.

The USA had NEVER lost a Gold Cup group stage game before. NEVER.

And that was the first time Panama has won against the USA.

USA plays its third group stage game Tue Jun 14.

CONCACAF CHAOS

There is no end in sight to the twists, turns or mess.

"We cannot continue this thing with Jack Warner, we simply cannot. The man has already committed himself and will most likely do more harm if he is left out there alone, it's time for us to get rid of him."
-Edward Seaga, President of the Professional Football Association of Jamaica

The Jamaica Gleaner has an interview with the president of the Jamaican FA who says Jack Warner must go.

Trinidad's Newsday reports that a court in the Bahamas has re-instated Lisle Austin as acting president of CONCACAF.

Trinidad's Express says FIFA does NOT recognize Austin as the president of CONCACAF despite the court order because FIFA does not recognize "ordinary courts."

Express with an article on Warner refusing to talk to FIFA investigators
-Plus Suriname confirming that they received the same $40,000 that 3 other Caribbean Football Union members said they received.

Express says that suspended acting COCACAF president Lisle Austin WILL speak with FIFA investigators.
-And Dominica says they were NOT offered any money.

Express reports that the Trinidad & Tobago Pro League may be the first victim of the chaos surrounding Jack Warner.
-The league is in dire financial straights.

Express also tells us that the T&T Police will ask FIFA for any evidence relating to bribery and Jack Warner.

Newsday reports that even Jack Warner's biggest political ally is now asking, "Where is Jack Warner?"

Newsday also follows up on their report that Warner is back as the director of the travel agency that has funneled so much of the alleged illegal funds over the years.
-Warner said he stepped down years ago, and still denies he is part of the company, but a Jan 14, 2011 tax filing lists him as director.
