Some News for Wed May 11, 2011

STARTERS

Barcelona are the 2010/11 Spanish Primera champions!!! Huge congrats to them. Hooray sangria.

STORY OF THE DAY

Evidence was presented yesterday to the British Parliament that Qatar used bribes to secure the votes to host the 2022 World Cup. The 2018 World Cup hosting bid is part of this mess too.

And these are just supposed infractions that the folks in England know about.

The Telegraph of London spells out the exact charges being made.

Our FIF Bill Archer provides his always quality insight.

The Trinidad Express has a defiant denial from Jack Warner concerning the allegations against him.

T&T Newsday has an interview with Warner. Great quotes from the Ol' Slapper.

MLS EXPANSION

The Minnesota Vikings NFL team has been lobbying the state of Minnesota and several local municipalities for financial assistance in building a new start of the art stadium. And yesterday at their latest press conference they again threw around the three letters "MLS."

IMSoccer News with complete coverage.

The entire effort on the Vikings part at this point is purely grandstanding and they will say anything they want to get people to pay huge chunks of the bills for them. So don't take anything you read on this subject as permanent truth.

The question that needs answers is, "Is this for real or not?"

I am always skeptical.

DCU to MSP? I hope not, for DC's sake (and for tradition's sake), and I don't think the odds are great (many stadium projects have thrown around the MLS name, didn't Birmingham AL's mayor try to use that to build a domed stadium?)
With Chang wondering out loud whether he might have to move to Baltimore, I am interested to see if this results in other cities offering him a better deal in a newer stadium.
