STORY OF THE DAY

Its now a day later and I am still extremely pissed off that NASL teams were excluded from the US Open Cup this year by US Soccer.

The reason given by US Soccer is that when the schedule was drawn up the NASL had lost their sanctioning, so they just weren't included.

My problem with this is that they new damn well that the NASL were not just going to stop bidding to have a leauge this year. I heard over and over that the two parties were in constant contact. Which means US Soccer knew NASL was making every effort to participate.

Couldn't they have simply drawn up two Open Cup plans, one with NASL and one without?

I don't like excuses like these. They are an easy cop-out. And in an era when we are all talking about giving every effort to promote the sport in our country, these things just make people disgruntled and wonder why we give so much in the first place.

Come on, bend a couple rules and make this happen. It cannot be that difficult of a task.

If I am wrong, then I would love to know why.

MY THOUGHTS

It would be great if some day soon MLS got one of their new sponsors to put some money and heft behind the Supporters Shield. Some real money, and real heft that is. And by that I mean like a 30% bonus on top of every players salary for winning it. Is that enough incentive?

The USSF's Open Cup decision is an absolute sham. The only explanation is that they feel like FIFA is making them look organized and honest and they wanted to give Sepp Blatter a run for his money.

Also, I, your Spurs buddy, cannot wait to talk to you about that AC Milan game, but I will wait until I know you have watched it.
