Some News for Thu Dec 30, 2010

Hey all! Just a little fill-in work today of items I have collected this week. And Happy New Year to everyone!

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER

DDR strikes again! Dwayne DeRosario is always providing dramatic headlines, and this time he has dome it by bolting to Celtic on a try out that was supposedly not even known about by his team Toronto FC or MLS. Wow!
-Ridge Mahoney of Soccer America puts it about as well as can be put.

Freddie Ljungberg is also with Celtic, and has actually signed a deal to play for them.

Columbus has signed 30 year old Chilean right fullback Sebastian Miranda from Union Espanola where he was the team's captain. He is expected to fill the hole left by the departure of Frankie Hejduk.

Now the rumor mill says Juan Carlos Osorio will NOT be the new head coach of Chivas USA!

Marcelo Bielsa is back in charge of Chile, the team he led to a very good World Cup last summer. He had quit the team after Jorge Segovia has been elected the new federation president. But Segovia was recently ousted due to a illegal voting, and a new regime has been installed, returning Bielsa to the coaches job.

The Asian Cup begins on Fri Jan 7 with 16 teams in 4 groups. The first game pits hosts Qatar v Uzbekistan.
-I must say that Group A might be the weakest group I have ever seen in modern confederation championships: China, Kuwait, Qatar & Uzbekistan. These teams are currently ranked 87, 102, 114 & 109 by FIFA.
