Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports that the Crew has told star player Guillermo Barros Schelotto that it will not be renewing his contract.
-Frankie Hejduk could be out the door as well.
-A few words from Schelotto. He is surprised by the move.
-Michael Arace of the Dispatch on the probable scenario where both Guillermo Barros Schelotto and Frankie Hejduk are gone from the team for next season.
-Bob Hunter of the Dispatch calls Schelotto an elite in the cities sports history.
-Could this be a way to lower his price. Or is he really gone. It feels like the latter.
-Mitchell says that the team also did not renew 3 veteran player's contracts: Hejduk, Duncan Oughton and Gino Padula.

In his State of the League address today commissioner Don Garber gave us more news on (all info below is from MLSsoccer.com):

Youth development projects: Teams can now sign an unlimited number of homegrown players per season while rosters sizes will expand to 30 players. Six of the roster spots will be reserved for players 24 and under, and they will not count against the budget cap.

2011 Salary Cap: $2.67 million per team.

Reserve League: A 10-game regular season. Clubs will be split into three regions consisting of six teams each. Teams will play opponents in their region twice a season. Matches will take place the day after the first teams or during midweek. The best 8 teams in the regular season will advance to the playoffs, which will determine a champion. In addition to participating in the Reserve Division, they may also schedule matches against other teams, including NASL or USL-Pro clubs. Eligibility rules will be strict - These matches can only have players who are on the club’s roster or are on trial or in the club’s academy.

CONCACAF Champions League: The 4 teams for next season are Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, Los Angeles Galaxy & Seattle Sounders. They will most likely get extra salary cap space to help upgrade rosters for the tournament.

John Molinaro of the CBC says that with there being 2 Canadian teams in the league now, and a third on the way, there is likely to be a change in the "international" and "national" roster status of players, because Canada simply does not have a deep enough pool of players to stock 3 top tier squads.

The Fire did not sign fullback Krzysztof Krol who was with them this season on loan from Jagiellonia Bialystok in Poland.

You realize that Mwanga's father was executed by the government of the Congo? It is highly unlikely he will ever play for them

This is minor and I am probably the only person who will notice, but Penn State is listed twice in the above college schedule. I believe my glorious Alma Mater, University of Pennsylvania, plays Bucknell for the right to be decimated by Maryland subsequently. Go Quakers!

Does anyone else hate the new KC Badge? Also, the K.C. / S.C. thing is just confusing to me, almost like mixed metaphors. Visually confusing, too. On the right, that should be a big KC, I'd think.
