Some News for Thu Oct 14, 2010

STARTERS

The Caribbean Championship tournament is going on right now, and last night Dominican Republic defeated the British Virgin Islands 17-0! yes, 17-0! And these are the teams that CONCACAF wants to give more World Cup qualifying games too. What a joke.

MLS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR CANDIDATES

One website makes the case for the top 3 choices:

-Danny Mwanga - Philadelphia - forward - the #1 SuperDraft pick is a big strong fluid attacker on an expansion team with very few options up top. He has started 15 games, appeared in 7 others, and scored 7 goals, some of which were jaw droppers.

dN

-Andy Najar - DC United - right midfield - the 17 year old is the only bright spot in a completely forgettable season. Seems to have the future all laid out in front of him. His quickness and vision make it seem like he has been a successful pro for years. Has started 20 games, appearing in 4 others, and scored 5 goals.

dN

-Tim Ream - New York - centerback - the oldest of the 3 by far at 23, he is the only new element to the previous seasons terrible defense (2009 gave up 47 goals - 2010 gave up 27 goals with 2 games left to play). The team defense is much better mainly due to his cool calm footwork. He has started every game this season, but collected only 2 yellow cards.
