Some News for Tue Sep 28, 2010

STARTERS

After further calculations it looks as though Real Salt Lake is the 2nd team to qualify for the MLS playoffs. KC can tie RSL, but RSL holds the first tie breaker (head to head play) and therefore is in the playoffs! Congrats to them. They are the favorites in my book to repeat as MLS Cup winners.
-Houston and New England are both out of the playoff chase, joining DC in the ditch.

dN

There is an element within the Fulham fan-base that are not pleased with the amount of time Clint Dempsey spends on the ground. They feel he is embellishing challenges on him, and doing some diving. They have taken to referring to him as The Groundsman.

BIDDING TO HOST WORLD CUP 2018 & 2022

The rumor from England is that they are going to pull out of their bid for 2022, and are counting on the USA pulling out of their bid for 2018. With the thinking that this will leave both countries as the favorites to win their bid for the other tournament.

STORY OF THE DAY

The Wall Street Journal follows up on on a Street & Smiths article (that was available on line to subscribers only) about a lawsuit filed against USSF and MLS regarding the sanctioning of international matches in the USA. (thanks to Brian for all the heads up up on this lawsuit)

I hope the Red Bulls can work something out with JPA. He's truly a legend at that club and while I can't see him earning close to his current salary anywhere in MLS at this point, perhaps they could give him max non-DP money (bumped up with some allocation money) to keep him, while keeping their third DP slot open for someone else (Del Pierro?)

Haven't got to see many Union games but from the article it would appear the problem isn't profanity; other than the "you suck a-hole" chant after goal kicks which sounds like is going away, but confusion over the "Come on the U" chant.

Does it really sound like F-U on tv and in the stands? If it does should the fans really be forced to change a non-expletive chant cause others say it sounds expletive? To me it seems like the SOBs are being painted in an improper light.
