THIS IS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT

I remember back not many years ago when the event of a big name international club team coming to America to take on a MLS team was not only a rarity, but also a very big deal with fans from coast to coast. My how things have rapidly changed. Now it's barely news outside of the city where the game is being held (although the size of the crowd is still huge), and even bigger news, the MLS teams are more than likely winning. And who says our league is not progressing.

>Toronto FC won the Canadian Championship >last night,

i dont mind canadian teams but this Champions League BS is... well, BS!!!
A CL should be about league champions (and various also-rans). You dont have a league? You dont get to play.

Remember how the US got the WC under condition that we start our own league again?
Canada should be forced to do the same.
You want to host international events, take parts in CL type events? YOu HAVE to show that you are working towards having a league of your own. I dont care of the caliber but how many other countries on this planet have no soccer leagues?
Seriously, try to name one non-banana republic... Cold countries like russia, ukraine and mini countries like the baltics, norway, sweden,denmark and teenie-tiny Iceland all have leagues.

There is absolutely no reason for Canada to get their sh*t together if we allow them cheezy backdoors to CL competitions or events like the Jr World Cup like they are a normal FIFA member.
You dont have a league and you should be on some kind of probation.

I think the WC94 was a good motivating factor for the US to finally get over its NASL hangover and if takes one in Canada to get them to do something, so be it.

But the status quo is not the solution. Like kicking your lazy 30 yr old kid so he can stand on his own two feet, we have to finally treat Canada like adults and not some special ed kid we tap on the head and smile at when he poops his
pants.

I knew that Denmark and Norway and other small countries had their own leagues but when I found out a few weeks ago that Iceland (pop. 300,000) had a league, I think we can safely say that a rich 38 million pop. country can too.

As any parent has to do at certain point, we have to make sure that our kids are able to leave the nest and function as adults.
