Some News for Thu Apr 15, 2010

STARTERS

Dick Advocaat resigned today as head coach of Belgium. I forgot he even had that job.
-He has long been on my list of potential coaches for the USA.

BIG CLUB MATCHES TODAY

Coming up this weekend - the Manchester derby at Man City. And the game has real meaning beyond intercity hate too.

WHO KNEW?

Well well well. Looks like the LA Galaxy organization has gotten themselves into quite a pickle with one of their biggest supporters groups - the Angel City Brigade. Michael Gray from the ACB sent us info on giant hassles that the supporters have had with Chivas USA supporters Legion 1908 (everyone seems to have a problem with these guys), and the Galaxy FO has not been responsive to the trouble. Actually the Galaxy has punished their own fans for being in these situations. What is going on here??

FACT OF THE DAY

Jen Chang of Sports Illustrated got me thinking about this topic again.

People are going all googly-eyed over the performances of Lionel Messi this season, and comparing him to Pele and Maradonna. But before he gets to that echelon, I think Messi should shot for this nearly impossible height - be as great as Ronaldo. Oh how quickly ye forget the modern greats. (And no I don't mean the guy who made his name at Man U and is now at Real Madrid.)

The guy who has 407 goals in 594 games for club & country, 2 World Cup trophies & 3 FIFA World Player of the Year awards!

The Real Ronaldo!

Ronaldo Phenomeno!

Messi should try to live up to these numbers:

From 1993-97 Ronaldo scored 88 goals in 97 games for Cruzeiro, PSV & Barcelona.

Then 132 in 195 for Inter & Real Madrid 97-07.

From 07 to the present - 21 goals in 40 games for Milan & Corinthians.

For Brazil 62 goals in 97 games.

He has been named FIFA World player of the year 3 times - 96, 97 & 02.

2 World Cup wining trophies - 94 & 02

All time World Cup leading goal scorer with 15.

Why have you already forgotten?

I was just reflecting on how Messi looked to me so much like Ronaldo in the mid to late 90's. Absolutely a joy to watch both, and completely unstoppable. It is odd that he was forgotten, but I think it was partly because he disappeared for a number of years right in his prime and then came back as a tremendous, but no longer the absolutely dominant forward that he had been before the knee injuries. Let's hope that Messi avoids a similar fate.

All children, except one, grow up. They soon know that they will grow up, and the way Wendy knew was this. One day when she was two years old she was playing in a garden, and she plucked another Cheap Jordan flower and ran with it to her mother. I suppose she must have Shoes Buy Online looked rather delightful, for Mrs. Darling put her Nike Air Jordan Shoes hand to her Women Jordan Shoes heart and cried, "Oh, why can't you Air Force Jordan Fusion remain like this for ever!" This was all that passed Air Jordan Fusion between them on the Kids Nike Shoes subject, but henceforth Wendy knew that she must grow up. You always know after you are two Big Jordan Shoes. Two is the beginning of the end.
