Some News For Thu Mar 4, 2010

STARTERS

Happy Birthday Landon Donovan! He is 28 today!

The Guardian reports that Stuart Holden suffered a broken leg against the Netherlands and will be out 6 weeks. Damn it.

dN

The Times of London suggests Bob Bradley has been getting tips on how to beat England from Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson. And hilarity ensues, not to mention innuendo, and no facts.

TEAM USA

Sure that wasn't the best USA game we have seen in the past 2 years, but it was not the worst either. They had a legitimate chance to tie that game in the dying minutes. Yes they left it too late, but at least I went home feeling neutral rather than peeved.

The most positive thing to take from this game for our team is that Holland has even less forwards than we do, and they still succeed.

du Nord 3 Stars Of The Game

3. Jozy Altidore - worked very hard, seemingly by himself, and used his strength to get some half chances, then he showed some skill and trickery too.
2. Wesley Schneider - clearly the best player on the field for either team. I am very surprised he did not shoot more, as he is deadly, but the USA had no one who could stop him.
1. Jonathan Bornstein, for the Dutch! - terrible foul gave the Netherlands their first goal, really poor positioning and a bad glancing shot off his body gave them their second, and the referee showed some mercy by not calling a handball on him right in front of the goal that easily could have been #3. A hideous night to forget for a player who looked like a ball of weird nerves all game long, and made the night easy for the Dutch.

The USL has announced today a new team in Orlando for 2011 and stated that they plan to apply to be the official 2nd Division in North America. Unfortunately for them they will only have 5 teams, where the NSAL will have at least 11 for 2011.

TRAGEDY IN HAITI

Michael Rand of the Minneapolis Star Tribune is in touch with Tony Sanneh has he hits the ground in Haiti to do what he can. It seems overwhelming. (thanks to BQ for the link)

I was disappointed mostly by the bad ref. Seemed like ticky tack fouls got called on the Americans (penalty was a bad call, but then the defender shouldn't have even tried to grab the player on the arm - just asking for a penalty), and let some doozies go, the (Holden attack) - which was a red card offense in my book, being as it wasn't a very 'freindly' play.

Also, seemed like Landon wasn't even on the pitch.

I think back to the last game with the MLS players, and I really liked the first half against El Sal - Conor Casey - Sacha - and Brad Evans I think, played quite well as a group.
