I'd rather have ANYONE than Bornstein right about now...

I don't get it, each player is allowed one mistake, after the one they are put out to pasture. Bornstein made the blunder in a friendly, it is done.

I'll reluctantly agree to Ching just because we're so thin at the forward position but Conor Casey? He has proven absolutely nothing with the chances Bob has given him. I would also like to see Chad Marshall on the squad. And Jose Torres absolutely, positively.

Out: Conor Casey
In: Jose Torres

I don't see Casey every producing at WC stage, and is a 3rd choice 'target' man on this roster. If it ever came to putting him in a game, you'd be better off displacing Donovan or Dempsey, thus making a MF roster spot for Torres.

Barring injury issues, I can't imagine a scenario where Holden is not on the team.

Holden replaces Ching

Otherwise, I agree with the team, but I don't think Davies or J. Jones get healthy / in form. So...
Eddie Johnson replaces Davies
Torres replaces J. Jones

I don't think Bornstein has done enough to justify being an 8th defender. I'd say Torres for him.

I agree that we'd be better off with Torres than Casey with Donovan and Dempsey able to move up front. I'd also like to see someone like Holden or Rogers instead of Clark/Edu/Jones as they are all similar players. I imagine one of the three won't be healthy so it should be an easy decision.

So many of those midfielders are central holding-type players. I'd leave off Clark (especially since Jones, if fully healthy, is a massive upgrade) in favor of Holden, who would be a much more positive offensive influence.

swap hejduk for bornstein and we're set.

JB has been awful for Chivas last year, and awful for the Yanks too. A consolation goal against Costa Rica in a meaningless game does score points with me.

Let me explain about Bornstein: It's not the mistake yesterday. He's had many in the past as well, and all of those mistakes and his play in general indicate to me he's not gonna be able to keep up with the kind of competition we'll be seeing in WC.

Like most of the list, Bruce! I would take off Casey and go with Torres or Holden. I just think they are better players and Donovan should be an option up front, anyway.

It's got to be Holden switching in for Feilhaber. I'm not even sure where Benny's getting his games these days, but Holden is (or was) in form for Bolton and Feilhaber is not near his best currently. It imbalances us in the midfield towards wide players, but Dempsey can play in the middle in a pinch and do fine. Plus having Holden on the team would theoretically free up Dempsey to play behind Altidore in a 4-4-1-1, which is probably where he's best anyway.

- Stuart Holden IN
- Conor Casey OUT
- Casey doesn't bring anything to the table that Ching doesn't do better. In my opinion, no need for both. And because Landon and Dempsey are both viable forward options (with much more value than Casey), I'd bring Holden given his albeit short history of providing a spark for the USMNT and his recent form in the EPL. Obviously, this makes the assumption that he's back in good form and De Jong's tackle.

Lost respect when you didn't include Holden. Huh?

Holden seems like a given at this point to be on the WC team – provided he recovers time – and with good reason. He certainly should be on it over Casey or Feilhaber. For that matter, I think Torres is a better choice than Feilhaber.

On the defensive side, I'd agree pretty much across the board, except that I do think Heyduk should be on there in place of either Bornstein or Pearce.

Bradley, Clark, Dempsey, Donovan, and Feilhaber have definitely proven that they deserve a spot on the roster even though Dempsey and Feilhaber are out injured.
Maurice Edu hasn't done as much for the US as Stuart Holden has.
So I say Stu Holden in. Mo Edu out.
Gringo Torres definitely deserves to go to South Africa.
So Jermaine Jones out. Torres in.
And Conor Casey is just out of the question. He had one good game with the US and that was the game vs. Honduras back when he took Clint's place while he was injured.
So Conor Casey out. Kenny Cooper in.
That's what I think.

If Bruchio can list Kasey Keller, I can list Brad Friedel (even if he now has an English accent)

Holden's a lock. Casey isn't going. Three defensive midfielders in Clark, Feilhaber, and Jones.

I don't see Jones going for a variety of reasons.

So: Holden & Torres IN. Casey & Jones OUT.

Everyone seems to bag on Casey. I think he's got this good, tall, kind of imposing look about him that helps his play. But what do I know?

I LOVE that lineup, but again that's if everyone's healthy. I think Casey did a great job in qualifiers for us but does more or less the same thing as Ching and Jozy. We need another speed striker.

Casey out, Eddie Johnson in

and I seriously hope Jones is healthy...

I'm going to say what I know everyone is thinking...
Brad Friedel, please come out of international retirement and get on this World Cup Roster!
Hahnemann is getting regular playing time while Guzan is not so Marcus is a 3rd spot lock. Guzan will have his chance in the Future...
Friedel in, Guzan out!
I'd much rather had Friedel in if Howard gets hurt than anyone else, agreed?

Out: Jones, Casey
In: Holden, Torres

Why would Bradley pick Jones? He hasn't played all year. He's never played with this team. It's unclear when/if he'll be healthy. There's no point to bringing both Casey and Ching, and Donovan or Dempsey can play up front if necessary.

There's zero chance of Friedel coming back unless Howard is hurt beforehand, and even then I wouldn't count on it.

I would take out Connor Casey and Jermaine Jones. Instead I would have Stuart Holden and Jose Torres. Torres had a not great but not terrible half against Holland, and deserves a spot in my opinion. Holden should definitely be in assuming he is healthy enough. Move Dempsey up top, have Davies come on as a sub if we need him.

That Would Leave the Team as

GK Howard
RB Cerundolo
CB Onyewu
CB Bocanegra
LB Specter
RM Holden
CM Edu
CM Bradley
LM Donvoan
FW Dempsey
FW Altidore

Subs
GK Guzman
CB Demerit
MD Beasley
MD Clark
FW Davies
