Some News for Wed Feb 3, 2009

STARTERS

The Glasgow Daily Record reports that DaMarcus Beasley has had his car deliberately set on fire and destroyed Monday night.

dN

Oh fine! Add Ricardo Clark to your Team USA injury list. German newspaper Hessischer Rundfunk says:
"Ricardo Clark has a right calf strain," said Eintracht spokesman Carsten Knoop on Tuesday evening. The injury had already contracted the player at the end of last week. Clark will probably have to pause three to four weeks before he can go into the team training.

USA WORLD CUP '98 SCANDAL

Well, its taken long enough but the story of the inside scandal with the USA 98 World Cup team has finally been told - and the tale is exactly what the speculators always thought it was.

Team Captain John Harkes had an affair with teammate Eric Wynalda's wife in the months leading up to the tournament, and coach Steve Sampson decided to remove Harkes from the team because of it. The rest is history as the team went on to a terrible performance in France. But, according to Sampson, this was not the first strike against Harkes, it was the last.

Monday night Wynalda told the basics of the story on his Fox Football Fone-in show. Which led to coach Sampson breaking his silence of all these years and talking to Ridge Mahoney of Soccer America, and then Wynalda (and more Sampson) talking to Ronald Blum of the Associated Press to fill out his side. Blum also got 2 sentences from Harkes, who has always denied the affair.

CLINT DEMPSEY/CHARLIE DAVIES INJURY

Charlie Davies had another surgery on his elbow yesterday to clean up the rest of the damage from the car accident. This has been scheduled for a while now and will not set back him rehab.

SALVADOR CABANAS

Listening to Ray Gallegos talk to the crew on the Orange Slice radio show last week, we learned that in addition to being shot Salvador Cabanas suffered 2 heart attacks. One while being stabilized at the scene, and a second after arriving at the hospital. This will surely add major complications to his recovery. Listen to download here.

dN

Doctors have been keeping Cabanas sedated and mostly in an induced coma to try and speed up the time to reduce swelling in his brain. They still have not removed the bullet.

dN

Cabanas is said to be talking and moving limbs when he is awake. And he has supposedly talked to police about the shooting.

dN

In a related story: Another Club America player was shot on Monday in a car-jacking crime. Juan Carlos Silva was held up and had his car taken, and for his efforts took a grazing bullet to his back side. Luckily it was a minor wound. But a majorly worrying incident.

I wouldn't say the new Wizards stadium is in the middle of no where. It will be in an entertainment area that include the baseball park they currently play in the, the motor speedway, shopping, Great Wolf Lodge, etc. It only takes about 20 minutes to get there from Country Club Plaza. It's a lot better location than Pizza Hut Park.

thanks for the input but i have to disagree

I am a city boy, and 20 minutes outside the city is in the middle of nowhere to me

i have been to the baseball park that kc plays at in the same area 3 times now

yes there is plenty of that fake city mall crap built up all around it - the kind of that that looks like the built it overnight

its the new suburbs basically

and anything is better than where pizza hut park is, so that doesnt count
