Some News for Tue Feb 16, 2010

STARTERS

Landon Donovan & Tim Howard got a shot at some UEFA Europa League action today as they hosted Sporting of Portugal in a Round of 32 First Leg match. Everton won the game 2-1, but the away goal could cost them dearly. They held the lead until very late when a defender was called for a Penalty and given a Red Card. Howard could not stop the PK. Donovan was voted by Everton fans as the Man of the Match.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

The competition has resumed with the 1st Leg of the Round of 16!

A variation to the format this year sees the matches spread out over 4 days instead of 2, giving more TV space for the teams.

TRAGEDY IN HAITI

CNN gives us a Q & A with Ynes Jean-Bart, the head of the Haitian Football Federation.
-He was one of the lucky few to get out of the headquarters building alive. 30 other members died in the earthquake.

MLS COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT

The current deal expired on Jan 31, 2010, but the two sides agreed to originally extend it until Feb 12, and now a further 13 days to Feb 25. Negotiations are said to be going well.
