wow those all suck
Makes me happy that I get to root for a team called "the Railhawks"
I actually really dig the Northstar FC name.
Matt - would this Northstar team be an NFL team, or some minor league regional football team?
These are all really bad. Is there a mass write-in being organized like in Seattle?
DuNord FC
oh "fc", why won't you return to the country you're from?
northstar sc... although that sounds like a rail line.
lame.
I wrote in KICKS!
I'm leading the mass write-in for Minnesota Nice FC. But we'll accept SC.
Separate question, I stopped by Holyland to catch the Cameroon v. Gabon game today and didn't see any tvs on. Are games being shown there?
Feeling Minnesota
Holyland TV's are upstairs ....
My thoughts on the team name (as sent to the powers that be):
To whom it may concern at NSC Minnesota:
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Neal Logan. I am a LONG time
supporter of the Minnesota Thunder, soccer player, referee, and futbol
fanatico. I am also very heavily involved in the local supporters,
especially the professional and National teams, specifically
organizing the 1st Minnesota Volunteers on both a local and national
level.
Please see some of my remarks below which I have expressed on Inside
MN Soccer and on other social media. Pass this along to other powers
that be as well, for my sentiments are shared by American soccer fans
across the country when it comes to the naming of soccer teams.
This is an important chapter in Minnesota Soccer (albeit unfortunate
circumstances), and we MUST make sure that we do not do what so many
other soccer teams in America have done in naming their teams. That
is: using contrived monikers or buzz words that associate with Europe
... we are Americans, and this is OUR game. We play different ...
stronger, faster and more physical than many other countries ... this
is a good thing. We do not need to bow or kowtow to anyone.
I respect what the NSCF is doing to continue the proud tradition of
professional soccer in Minnesota, and will be fully behind the
endeavor.
DC United, for example, a team that I have loved and followed since
day one. Why United? there was no uniting of anything, as is the
tradition and history of Manchester United, for example.
ReAL Salt Lake: Real refers to the club announced by the Spanish King,
last I heard, even the Mormons in Utah do not have a king (I was born
in Utah, by the way).
FC: we call it soccer
AC St. Louis: Athletic Club > OK if the club ran more than one sport,
such as basketball and hockey, and were all owned by the same company.
Voyagers, while it may have legs in the supporters community is really
a reference to French Fur traders/trappers.
Respectfully, I suggest that the club stick to the roots of the
endeavor, and call the team what it is: NSC. Or as I like to refer
to it: New Soccer Club Minnesota.
I look forward to meeting you all at the Stakeholders Summit.
Respectfully.
Peace and futbol.

Hey Neal, United in D.C. United's name refers to the region surrounding D.C. --> Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
...and Manchester United wasn't formed by the combination of two teams either. It was Newton Heath FC and then they just changed the name.
Eric Loew is correct, I corrected Bruce on that a while ago
duNord TC
just stick with Thunder...
I'm sick and tired of people dissing on Real Salt Lake's name. Although I don't particularly like it, it's as legitimate as most other sports names. There are plenty of soccer teams around the world (especially latin america)with the name 'Real' that don't have a king. It's a nickname that, like Detroit Lions (have you ever seen a lion in Detroit except for the zoo?), Houston Dynamo (?) NYRB's (?), KC Wizards (??). Give me a break.
"Brian said... I corrected Bruce on that a while ago"
hahahahahahaha - who hasn't corrected me!
thanks brian
and Timoteo - there are no breaks given here!
I wrote in Minnesota Vengeance...what do you guy's think? In any event they will probably follow suit with the coporate branding and use NSC Minnesota. When will they announce the name?
