Some News for Fri Nov 6, 2009

QUESTION ON MY MIND

So who is joining me in Chicago on Saturday for the Fire game against New England? How many times have I seen these two duke it out? Like old timey boxing? Can't wait! See you there!

STARTERS

Real Salt Lake followed New York's lead from last year and knocked the defending MLS Cup winners out of the playoffs in the first round. It was an insanely wild first half, with Columbus going up 2-0 a one point and 2-1 on aggregate, then a hang on by your fingernails second half. Wow! I can't believe the champs are out!

MLS PLAYOFF NEWS

After going 22 MLS home games in a row without a loss, the Crew finished the season by losing 3 in a row at Crew Stadium. How does that happen?

dN

Just over 10,000 fans in the Columbus stands for the defending champions in a must win game. That's embarrassing. The Hunt family needs to figure out how to drive the marketing of their 2 teams immediately. They could start by hiring some front office people from Toronto and Seattle, and turn them loose. The nice guys routine has run out of gas completely.

A pair of Twitter messages from Robbie Rogers since last night's game are pretty simple yet full of meaning:
-"Dont understand some things in life"
-"Leaving, gone, adios..."

It really is sad to see the depths Hungary has fallen to. This isn't just another team. Hungary invented modern soccer. They were the first continentals to beat England in Wembley. They still hold the longest unbeaten streak. Unfortunatly, hooligan fans, the big money ways of todays game, and a general sense of apathy have hurt this country's once proud tradition.
