Some News for Thu Oct 1, 2009

QUESTION ON MY MIND

1-888-388-2650 - This is the phone number of the dopes trying to sell the Honduras v USA game via closed circuit in the USA. Call them and tell them that they are dopes. So far they have signed up a whopping 5 places in the entire country to carry the game. They are doing a bang up job.

STARTERS

Hooray Beer indeed - Oguchi Onyewu made his debut for AC Milan yesterday in the UEFA Champions League. Sadly, they lost 0-1 at home to Zurich. Huge bummer, but don't blame him.

Real Salt Lake & Toronto are off this week, while New England plays twice.

dN

Another blow to New England's chase of a playoff spot. Yes they still sit in the final place, but they are wasting their games in hand with losses.

dN

And Jeff Cunningham again makes former Toronto coach John Carver look like an idiot. JC nabbed his league leading 16th goal just a year after Carver questioned how this guy could have ever scored a single goal in the league. Touche.

dN

Speaking of goal scoring machines - Juan Pablo Angel has just topped the New York all time goal scoring record with his 46th, breaking the previous record of 45 set by Clint Mathis.

USL FIRST DIVISION

The league has announced their 2009 Best 11

G:
Steve Cronin - Portland Timbers
D:
Nelson Akwari - Charleston Battery
Cristian Arrieta - Puerto Rico Islanders
Matt Bobo - Charleston Battery
David Hayes - Portland Timbers
M
Daniel Paladini - Carolina RailHawks
Ryan Pore - Portland Timbers
Ricardo Sanchez - Minnesota Thunder
F
Charles Gbeke - Vancouver Whitecaps
Mandjou Keita - Portland Timbers
Johnny Menyongar - Rochester Rhinos

A huge congrats to the award winner! And they are all worthy winner except the goalkeeper. I would say he was actually one of the least talented keepers in the league. His defense made him look great by giving him great stats, but his shot stopping is fairly poor. Too bad about that one.

MINNESOTA THUNDER

Our own "El Perro Loco", midfielder Ricardo Sanchez, has made the First Division Best 11. I am really excited for him. What a great guy, and a very exciting player. I bet some people are not real big fans of some of paculiarities though. Hahaha! Before he came to our team I found him to be one of the most despicable opponents we had ever faced. Don't you just love the insane dichotomy of it all. I think he just might be the best free kick taker in all of football in the USL, or MLS for that matter.

-Jozy Altidore
-Landon Donovan

For me, that fact that Oguchi Onyewu wasn't in the top 3 takes into question the whole event. I actually would give my vote to him if I had one.

LD has won the award 5 times.

First, I just want to thank you for the great blog you have here that gives us soccer junkies our fix.

Second, just wanted to touch on the viewing options for the USA/Honduras match. According to what Goff posted over at Soccer Insider, this site - http://www.circuitocerrado.tv/locales.html- is apparently a list of "Spanish" establishments set to the show the match. Just thought I'd share in case some people are starved for a place to watch.

Thanks again for such a great site.

From everything I have gathered, his information is slightly wrong. Those "spanish speaking" places on the list are venues that have shown PPV events run by this same company IN THE PAST, not ones who have signed up for this one.

I could be wrong, but I'm betting the company is counting on the Spanish broadcast as the real moneymaker rather than the English one. The English broadcast is up against college football, and I wouldn't expect many bars to pick up the broadcast unless they are a hard-core soccer bar.

Dude, what is your hard-on for Jeff Cunningham all about ?

He has scored all of those goals, yet he's been traded around more times than a Pokemon card.

Bruce, if you're the big-talking insider that you claim to be, you'd know that Cunningham has always been a head case and a jerk.
That's why nobody wants to keep him.

All those goals, yet when did that ever get him any serious consideration for the national team ?

Jason Kreis scored a lot of goals, but he was too slow to play for the national team.

On the other hand, Cunningham is fast.

He's just not a team player.
