MLS

This coming Saturday night Chivas USA hosts the latest edition of the SuperClassico against neighbors Los Angeles Galaxy. The game kicks off at 10pm Central on FSC. I will be taping that game and the USA v Haiti game to watch later as I will be rocking out with SuperRookie and his gang watch UFC100.

dN

The Galaxy announced today that they have signed TnT International midfielder Chris Birchall from Brighton & Hove Albion in England's League One (third tier). He will be available to play when the summer transfer window opens on July 15. I can't see him adding much to this team.

dN

The Columbus Crew are headed to the White House to meet the Prez next Monday! Hooray beer! And Cigs!

dN

The Bermuda Sun talks to Khano Smith about his brutal season so far with the NY Red Bulls.

dN

The Midland Reporter Telegram with an article on their local boy, FC Dallas midfielder Bruno Guarda.

dN

The Daily Reflector of Greenville NC with an article on Kansas City left fullback Michael Harrington. Did you know that Harrington gets his hair highlighted by Kevin Hartman's mother.

dN

Brian Lewis of the NY Post talks to Veljko Paunovic who is on a try-out with the Red Bulls. They need all the help they can get. Is he any kind of answer? He played last year for Partizan Belgrade.

dN

Lewis also reports that the Red Bulls want to sign USA U20 attacking midfielder Dilly Duka, currently on their own academy team. Coach Juan Carlos Osorio is very high on this player. Anderlecht of Belgium is also chasing the player.

USL FIRST DIVISION

Goalkeeper Dusty Hudock of the Charleston Battery has been named the Player Of The Week.

dN

And the league's Team Of The Week.
G:
Dusty Hudock - Charleston - Seven saves in 1-0 win at Montreal
D:
Cristian Arrieta - Puerto Rico - Led team in 0-0 draw at Miami
John Ball - Rochester - Assist in 4-1 win over Austin
Quavas Kirk - Minnesota - Led team in 1-1 draw against Portland
M:
John Pulido - Miami - Led team in 0-0 draw against Puerto Rico
Sullivan Silva - Austin - Goal in 1-0 win at Cleveland
Tony McManus - Portland - Goal in 1-1 draw at Minnesota
Jeremiah Bass - Minnesota - Goal in 1-1 draw against Portland
F:
Johnny Menyongar - Rochester - Goal in 4-1 win over Austin
Dan Antoniuk - Charleston - Goal in 1-0 win at Montreal
Warren Ukah - Rochester - Goal in 4-1 win over Austin

dN

I have to admit that seeing Tony McManus on the list this week makes me wonder about the validity of the whole list. You see, McManus got his important goal on a long shot that took a big deflection, otherwise I doubt very much he would have beaten Thunder keeper Nick Platter.

SOCCER IN AMERICA

The NY Examiner does a Q & A with former star centerback and current TV commentator Marcelo Balboa.

Just want to point out that Charlie Davies is from my hometown, Manchester, NH, not Massachusetts. ;)

It's something our small American Outlaws New Hampshire chapter takes pride in, I guess, having three current USMNT players from our state: Davies, Jay Heaps (Nashua), and Conor Casey (Dover). :P

Veljko Paunivic bears a slight resemblance to the lead actor from The Hebrew Hammer.

Regarding Red Bull signing Duka, I thought that MLS had worked all that out. If he's playing for their academy team, there really shouldn't be an issue. It would be a shame for MLS to miss out on a young American player like him.

UFC 100 is going to be one for the ages. Regardless of what the haters say, those dudes are ridiculous!

I wouldn't admit to being the home of Conor Casey. I swear, if that dude gets one more call up for the USMNT...might as well call me up, I can be totally worthless on the pitch too!
