Some News for Thu Jul 16

STARTERS

An update on the Mexico v USA World Cup qualifier viewing clusterfuck. In case you haven't seen this already, the game will not be shown on a channel that 99% of us fans can get. Telemundo owns the rights to all games from Mexico, and their plan is to broadcast it in English on a spin-off channel they have called Mun2. Here are some folks trying to kick some life into the debate:

dN

Matchfit USA has a page filled with email addresses of people who are in charge of this mess, so you can harass them and show them how important this game is to you.

dN

An online petition to change the channel. (This isn't really my kinda thing, but if it makes a difference, then more power to them.)

dN

Twitter late this afternoon from Charlie Davies: "In France, Officially an FC Sochaux Player. I'm amped!!!!"

Come on everybody - sing it with me, with your arms around your friends and jumping up and down: "Es-tu-diantes, Es-tu-diantes, Ole Ole Ole. Campeones, Campeones, Ole Ole Ole. Es-tu-diantes, Es-tu-diantes, Ole Ole Ole. Campeones, Campeones, Ole Ole Ole." (Repeat to infinity or until hoarse.)

In listening to Glenn Davis's radio show the other night (see link to podcast in right column) we learned that two young Houston Dynamo stars, Ricardo Clark & Stuart Holden, are out of contract at the end of this season, and have not entered into negotiations with MLS for new deals yet. I would assume they both want moves to Europe. That would be unfortunate. Later on that same show Houston CEO Chris Canetti stated that contrary to rumors no team from anywhere has contacted the team or the league to inquire about buying Ricardo Clark, not even the supposed French team (like Rennes).

dN

Buzz Carrick of 3rd Degree asks Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman why the team passed on signing Danny Szetela (they had first crack at him, and let him go to DC for nothing in return). Good answer.

I pointed this out over on IMS as well - I was shocked to find that I actually do get the Mun2 channel that the US/Mex game is on. I don't subscribe to any Spanish language package or anything, and don't get any of the other channels in that region of the proverbial dial, but for some reason I do get Mun2.

So I would also hope that a bar like the Sweetwater, which I believe gets various Spanish language channels in their package(s) would get it as well. But I don't know if that's the case or not since I believe they are on a satellite and I'm on cable.
