Some News for Mon Jul 20

STARTERS

Frank Dell'apa who covers soccer in our country as well as anyone over the past 20 years has started a blog, Soccer Confidential, to help us all keep tabs on the interesting stuff that only he can dig up. I love it. Welcome to blogland Frank. (Dell'apa's main gig was with the Boston Globe, where last year he was removed from the soccer beat to cover the Boston Celtics NBA team. It was a huge blow to us US soccer fans.) Not to forget that Frank also has the most perfect mustache in all of the American soccer scene.
-Here is a very important post on another player who may follow the footsteps of Nevin Subotic and go from the USA to Germany to the Bosnian national team.

dN

And Buzz Carrick of 3rd Degree tips us off that Steve Davis has a blog now too: Daily Soccer Fix.
-One of Davis's first posts is about the size of the pitch at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium. Basically the field is too small to be taken very seriously for big big soccer events like World Cup finals. How did they screw that one up?

dN

Jaime Moreno of DC United scored again this past weekend raising his league leading all time goal scoring tally to Jaime Moreno 128. And he looks to be keeping that record for quite a while the way things are going. The next 3 active players on the list, Ante Razov (114), Jeff Cunningham (107) & Taylor Twellman (101), have all gone cold this season due to injury etc. That leaves Landon Donovan at 91 at the top chaser.

dN

Make no mistake about it, David Beckman was boo-ed mercilessly by the fans in the stands on Sunday. I can't disagree with them, he has been quite disingenuous. If he came out and said, "my priorities have changed", then we could understand, but his insistence that he is giving it his all with the Galaxy is just cheap.

If any other pro athlete in any sport in the USA tried to instigate a confrontation with a fan they would definitely be suspended. Will this happen to Becks? Why isn't anyone talking about this??

I don't think the fan should be banned. After all, he was invited onto the field by a player. I'm sure there were other people at field-level who were there as guests of players who didn't have the proper passes.

Also, re the Landon split. That can't be fun for anyone to go through, but the good news is that Bianca apparently gave Landon his balls back. Dude has been on a tear the past several months. I think it's because his balls are no longer in possession of his girl.
