US OPEN CUP

Great fun was had last night at the National Sports Center as my Minnesota Thunder beat Chicago Fire PDL 4-0 in the rain. For whatever reason I love rain games, and our team tends to play great in the rain as well. After a simply rotten start to the season the team has begun to get it together and won 3 in a row (2 Open Cup and 1 First Division). They host the Kansas City Wizards on June 30th in the 3rd round. Our boys went to KC in 2005 for a Quarterfinal match and came home with a 1-3 triumph of epic proportions. I have no doubt we will do it again.

dN

2nd Division Wilmington pulled off the big upset of the round knocking out 1st Division team Carolina (who appear to be falling apart)

dN

The most convincing win was by Portland going on the road and winning 0-3 over PDL side Sonoma County.

A couple of doozy's in the next round to check out - the renewal of the Portland v Seattle derby, a first ever meaningful meeting between Austin & Houston, and a shot at glory for Ocean City as they take on the Cup holders from DC.

Have to say I am somewhat surprised at the number of pundits and fans who think it is just peachy that Rossi is "living his Italian dream." One of the commenters on the Zeigler story actually says Arena and Landon are acting like "ugly Americans" because they aren't thrilled little Guiseppe chose to play for the Azzurri. And yet he gives a pass to Rossi's celebration and clueless after the match remarks. Amazing. Now that I have calmed down I agree with Brucio, it would be stupid to hate Rossi, but I will NEVER be a fan of his and, yes, I do resent his decision.

I thought Red Bull had another soccer investment in Ghana (or another African country). Also, they couldn't name the club Red Bull Leipzig due to naming restrictions (Bayer Leverkusen is different!) and named the club RasenBallsport Leipzig instead. That translates into LawnBallsport. Anyway, it should be interesting to see all three major Leipzig teams battle in the same division next year--fights among fans should be expected.

Love the picture at the end.

I believe there are still 48 venues in 37 cities in the runnning.
