Officially On Hiatus

I am definitely going to take a break from du Nord.
I have no idea if it will be for days, weeks, months or forever.
But I do know that I am burnt out, and need to step away.
As soon as I know more, so will you.
Thanks for all the great patronage.

I completely understand blogger burnout. After a while, it feels like more of a chore than a fun hobby. Give yourself some space from it and then start thinking about what you truly feel like writing about rather than what you feel like you have to write about. Then follow the former. That's the only way past the burnout.

Good luck.

Enjoy Bruce. The amount of work you put into du Nord is amazing and it's no wonder you need a break. Now if I can just keep myself from going back to Big Soccer.....

I bet if you put out a call for temporary/semi-permanent replacements you'd find more than a few folks willing to keep the blog up to the standards you've set: that's down to how stellar you've been.

Thanks for what you've done, and enjoy your time off.

Life without "Du Nord" = "no life at all."

But seriously, Bruce, take care of yourself. You are 100 times more important to the U.S. soccer community than Beckman, Landon, and Feilhaber combined.

Brucio,

Take it easy, listen to the groundhog and take 6 weeks off for hibernation. :) You need an offseason too. Thanks for all the hard work, you are certainly appreciated more than you think.

Come back when, or if, you want to, we'll still follow you.

Dude, rest on! You are a vibrant man who needs a little rejuvenation. But like the mafia, soccer will pull you back in (phew), and I guarantee it happens with some ignorant, brash comment from south of the border in the run-up to Feb. 11. I give it 6 days.

Enjoy the time off. I was astonished daily at how much great info you would compile and felt spoiled every time. Hope you come back with fresh legs (and hopefully some paychecks for this magical blog!).

Godspeed son and see you back on the front lines soon - thanks for all your hard work and dedication --you've done American footy proud!!

Brucio - You're no doubt aware of this, but you are true legend in the American soccer scene already. As you've mentioned so many times, this is a game (and culture) ruled by the internet here in the states, and you are the focal point for so many "futbol fanaticos" out there who have trouble navigating the various news sources out there (or who have become disgruntled with the bickering and cliques on the Bigsoccer boards). The "Designated Players" do a great job, but no one pulls it all together on a daily basis like you do. Here's to hoping for good health and happiness no matter what you decide. Thanks for all you've done for so many of us US soccer fans.

I know the feeling brucio. Take your time and be ready before you come back. I've been there and spending so much time on a labor of love can eventually kill off the passion. Good luck and I hope to see you back soon...if not, I completely understand. Thanks for everything.

Bruce, take all the time you need. I burned out back in 2004 and took almost a year to come back.

To Brucio's fans and readers, if you really want to show your appreciation for his thousands of dedicated hours - please follow the links from his blog and buy something from one of his sponsors!

Ciao,

We know blogger burnout, having experienced it ourselves (see February through July, 2008). It's really tough to do it all by yourself.

Best of luck and hopefully you'll be back!

To correct the above poster, the site that is attempting to do the Du Nord-style daily news updates is http://www.MLS-Daily.com

They've been doing it for about three weeks now, and generally have links to between 50-70 stories each day to peruse (during the week).
