CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying News

Where will the USA play their other 4 [CORRECTED] home qualifiers in the Hexagon (game 1 is in Columbus)? They have already said that they will not play any games on grass or a field that has grass laid over fake turf. That eliminates places like Boston, Portland & Seattle right off the top. Dallas, Salt Lake, Los Angeles and Chicago all have nice MLS stadiums with real grass to they are in. I can't imagine this round going by without a game at RFK in Washington DC either. So where else could the games be held? In the past Cleveland, Hartford and Birmingham have all played host to the USA. What about Houston or Phoenix. The Bay Area. The Carolinas. Anyone with other ideas?

The US will have a total 5 home games, not 6 (unless we're playing ourselves), so there are only 4 still up for grabs.

If RFK doesn't get a game I'd guess Philly would at the Eagles home. Another pro-football stadium could be Arrowhead. But I see all the games outside of one in the Northeast going to MLS stadiums with grass fields. It seems US soccer loves to reward MLS for stuff like that.

Of course the NSC has a grass field, so maybe... ;)

Even if a World Cup qualifier can fill an NFL stadium, I still think US Soccer should give the games to cities that have put some commitment to soccer.

Columbus is perfect. They paved the way for SSS and having the game there will do a lot to help build the soccer culture in Columbus. Other games should be in Rio Tinto, Toyota Field, Pizza Hut Park and possibly consider Dick's or RFK.

I can understand why US Soccer would want a game with more fans at Giants Stadium than say Salt Lake City, but Salt Lake City made a big commitment by building a stadium and giving them games like this can only help build the soccer culture in general.

What is the point of building these things if the national team avoids them? It was ridiculous when USA played Brazil in Chicago but avoided the SSS.

As to the Amway sponsorship, a few of us soccer geeks with posting on facebook and decided that the Earthquakes will need a pyramid on their uniform now. They will also be required by their new sponsor to play a 4-3-2-1 and all kits will be laundered at half-time. Never again will their be an excuse for a dirty Earthquakes uniform.
