Hitting The Notes Just A Little Off Sounds Right News

This will be the 4th year in a row that Pat Noonan tries to win MLS Cup. He is zero for the last three with New England, so will his luck change in Columbus?

~and~

Really bad news from the official Atlanta Silverbacks website: "Due to the state of the economy and the potential of an MLS team coming to town, the men’s pro team has decided to sit the year out while the Silverbacks assess the landscape." More details in the USL First Division News section.

MLS Post Season Awards

The fans have voted for this as MLS Goal of the Year by Real Salt Lake midfielder Will Johnson. Whatever. Did any of you SEE the goal that Marcelo Gullardo hit? He tried to do that. Even Will Johnson admits that his was pure luck. He never tried to flick it to himself, he misplayed it and got a lucky bounce. Sad. OK I'll stop complaining. Great goals rock!

USL First Division News

I have been sensing some negative rumblings in the past week about USL. Word around was that some teams were not happy with the way the league is being run from the top. But until now there had been nothing concrete to report on. Then we got this late yesterday:
-The Atlanta Silverbacks Men to Sit Out 2009 Season - from the teams official site
~ ~ ~ ~ ~

This is horrible news for the league. With Seattle leaving for MLS and Austin moving up to the 1st Div next year that leaves the league at just 10 teams. To me that is not big enough. We need growth not shrinkage.

About the Silverbacks, yes it is a shame. Unfortunately, the AJC could care less. It looks like they just gathered what they could from the announcement on the website (or email that was sent out.)

Here's the link to judge for yourself: http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/stories/2008/11/19/atlanta_silverbacks_soccer.html

Triple J.

Really Atlanta? You don't even stand that much of a chance to get a MLS team. In my mind, their 6th choice with only Ottawa having less of a chance. Think about it: Barca in miami, the "hotbed" for soccer that is St. Louis, and actually good USL teams in Montreal, Vancouver and Portland.

and the economy is a pretty bad excuse if you ask me.

Brucio, no news on the Women's U-20 World Cup being held in Chile?

The U.S. just beat France 3-0. Chile lost to England 0-2 and Nigeria beat New Zealand 3-2 with a last minute goal. That's all I know. Unfortunately all matches The U.S.A. plays are about 8 hours away from me. If they make it to the finals I'll be able to see them in Santiago, which would be sweet.

On an unrelated note, I have complete faith in U.S.L. to get things back on track. Maybe that's because I used to work there, but still...

Pat Noonan hasn't played in any of the playoff games for C-bus! Wow! That certainly shows their strength up top and on the wing. So, he might win one, but he might not even get to play in it!

A couple of errors today :

-NYRB have given up 7 goals (not 2)in the last five games: 5 against Chicago, 1 against Houston, and 1 against Columbus.

-IK Start just got promoted
